Woman riding pillion dies in road accident; husband, daughter critical

Udupi, October 14: A woman was killed on the spot and her husband and their six year old daughter were injured in a tragic hit and run case near Laxmindra Nagar, on the Manipal - Udupi road, here on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Anitha (35), a resident of Donderangadi near Perdoor.

She was a pillion rider with her husband Dayananda who was riding his bike along with their daughter Divya.

Anitha was thrown to the road as a milk van hit their bike from behind. Injured Dayananda and Divya have been admitted to the hospital. Manipal Police booked a case against the van driver, who fled from the scene after the accident.

Udupi: Pilgrim drowns in Sri Krishna Mutt’s pond

Udupi, Feb 11: In a tragic incident, a 62-year-old man from Chennai died of drowning in Sri Krishna Mutt’s Madhwa Sarovar (pond) during the wee hours of Tuesday.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Capt G Sridharan.

It is suspected that Sridharan accidentally fell into the holy pond while taking a bath. The incident is said to have occurred around 4 a.m.

6,000 chickens buried alive in Belagavi as prices drop

Belagavi, Mar 10: Around 6,000 chickens were buried alive by some poultry farm owners here as the rate of flesh in the market dropped even below the cost price due to Coronavirus scare.

The poultry farm who buried the chickens on Monday evening belonged to Lolasuru village in Gokak Taluk of the district.

One of the owners, Nazir Makandar, said that there was no demand for chicken because of threat of Coronavirus.

Two injured as truck laden with poultry feed catches fire in Bantwal

Bantwal, Apr 29: Two people were injured after the truck laden with poultry feed rammed into the compound wall of after catching fire on Wednesday, at Marnabailu near Melkar.

Police said the injured were the driver and an assistant in the truck. They were admitted to a private hospital at Mangaluru.

However, it is not yet clear whether the truck transporting poultry feed from a company at Kandur caught fire after colliding against the electric pole or with the compound wall.
