Praja Pragati Ranga may join hands with Yeddyurappa's new party

Bangalore, October 15: Former chief minister B?S?Yeddyurappa, who has begun the exercise of forming his own party, is exploring the possibility of having a pre-poll alliance with the Praja Pragati Ranga (PPR), a new political front in the State.

PPR is an umbrella body of nearly 16 organisations including a couple of political parties, and they mainly advocate the welfare of minorities, backward classes and scheduled castes/tribes.

It includes Rajya Raitha Sangha headed by Kodihalli Chandrashekar, DSS, RPI, Samata Sainik Dal, BSP, Social Democratic Party of India, the Karnataka unit of the Samajwadi Party, Lok Jan Shakti, Vatal Paksha, a party floated by Dr Chandrashekar Patil, among others.

Kodihalli Chandrashekar informed that he and leaders of some of the constituents of the Front had met Yeddyurappa recently.

“We are for a pre-poll alliance with the party to be floated by Yeddyurappa. As long as the party remains secular, we do not have any problem in fighting the next Assembly elections together. We would like to have seat sharing arrangements with Yeddyurappa's party,” he said.

Dr M?P?Nadagouda, JD(U) State president, said his party too had an invitation to join the Front. But he is yet to decide in this regard. “The Front intends to develop on the lines of NDA. But, Yeddyurappa is yet to quit the BJP. What if the BJP decides retain him by meeting his demands?” he said.

So far State BJP president K?S?Eshwarappa and Chief Minister Jagadish?Shettar have not commented on Yeddyurappa's utterances against the party in public.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: The Karnataka government on Wednesday opened a critical care support unit to monitor the progress of Coronavirus patients in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) of various designated COVID hospitals across the State.

Karnataka is the first state in the country to establish a dedicated unit for critical care support, by linking ICUs of COVID hospitals onto a single platform, Medical Education Minister Sudhakar K, who inaugurated it, was quoted as saying in a statement on Wednesday.

Its objective is to monitor COVID-19 patients in ICUs across Karnataka state so that the hospitals are prepared for the potential onslaught of the virus and thereby to achieve zero COVID mortality in Karnataka, he said, adding, it would enable capturing details of ICU COVID-19 patients in real-time

Udupi, June 21: An entrepreneur lost his life after the car he was driving veered off the road and plunged into a roadside tank near Barkuru in Brahmavar taluk of Udupi district today.

The deceased has been identified as Santosh Shetty, a resident of Vakwadi in Kundapur taluk. He is the proprietor of Laxmi Glass and Plywood, Koteshwara. 

A woman, identified as Shweta, who was also on board the car suffered critical injuries.  

The mishap occurred when the duo was heading to Vakwadi from Brahmavar in Hyundai Car sedan car. 

Shetty lost control over his vehicle while negotiating a curve at Chaulikere and the car plunged off the road as there was no barricade. 

Even though local residents began rescue operation immediately, Shetty breathed his last on the spot. Shweta was rescued and shifted to a hospital in Manipal for treatment.

Bengaluru, Apr 26: Three new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the state to 503 as per Karnataka government.

There are 302 active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka presently, while 182 patients have been discharged, 19 deaths have been reported, state government informed.

The total number of positive coronavirus cases across the country are 26,917, including 20,177 active cases of the virus. So far, 5,913 patients have either been cured or discharged while 826 deaths have been recorded in the country, as per data provided by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
