Moral police' escape as girl calls parents

Puttur, October 16: Two students of opposite sex belonging to different communities were targeted by moral police who found them roaming together.

A male Muslim youth studying in a college here was apparently hanging out with a female counterpart and another female from the Hindu community. This was noticed by a gang of moral police who instantly approached the Hindu female and threatened her not to roam with the Muslim youngster.

The men in the gang were not contented with her reply that she was just being with her female classmate and began making her feel uneasy. Owing to this, she called her father to report the matter and resorted to tears, resulting in the so-called moral police slinking away from the scene.

Moral police, who had been lying low from a couple of months, seem to have sprung back into action due to upcoming elections. The parents of students are plagued by anxiety and few college students have even discontinued their studies due to this.

The public have alleged that this was the work of a group of city-based out-of-work hooligans on a spree. The real police have to be on the lookout so that such incidents do not occur, they urged.
