Thieves take away jewellery worth Rs.10 lakh from house

Shirva, October 19: An incident of theft where jewellery worth lakhs of rupees was stolen has come to light at a house in Thirlapalke of Moodubelle.

Thieves entered the house of Judith Lobo by breaking open the main door and took away gold ornaments of about 320 grams, an Italian silver chain of 10 grams, a diamond pendant of 10 grams and three earring sets weighing about 20 grams. The total worth of the stolen ornaments is about Rs. 10 lakhs, it is said.

The theft took place when Ms. Lobo was not present at the house. Her husband Valerian Lobo is working abroad while Ms. Lobo had been to her mother's house in Udupi on October 15.

Dog squad and finger print experts have held inspections at the site of crime. Shirva police have registered a case.

184 stranded Kannadigas from UAE arrive in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jul 22: As many as 184 people from Karnataka stranded in UAE arrived at Mangalore International Airport.

According to sources, the chartered flight, which landed on Tuesday night, was arranged by the UAE Karnataka Cultural Foundation and Beary Cultural Foundation for Kannadigas who had been stranded following the lockdown and also those who had lost their employment.

A team of officials with Puttur Assistant Commissioner Yathish Ullal and Horticulture Department Assistant Director Praveen who were in charge of quarantine facilities for international passengers verified the documents and sent them for institutional quarantine.

Of the 184 passengers, 141 had remained quarantined in Mangaluru while 42 left for Udupi and one to Honnavara in Uttara Kannada, said sources.

Covid-19: Karnataka police raids 120 shops black marketing food grains

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Police on Wednesday conducted surprise raids at nearly 120 shops in Bengaluru following complaints of black marketing and sale of foodgrains above the MRP rate.

Sandip Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime, Bengaluru in a tweet said that action has been initiated against these shopkeepers.

Though the government has maintained the supply chain of essential items, few shopkeepers have used the lockdown opportunity to charge higher prices for essential items.

Two of a family killed as tanker rams into car near Uppinangady

Uppinangady, Feb 9: Two members of a family were killed after the car collided with a tanker on the NH 75 at Bedrody near Uppinangady last night.

Police said on Sunday that the deceased have been identified as Jainy Saji (30) and her elder brother Jeeson (40).

Jainy and Jeeson were going to Uppinangady when a tanker, coming from the opposite direction, rammed into their car.
