Coastal districts celebrate Ayudha Pooja with pomp and gaiety

Mangalore, October 23: The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi celebrated Ayudha Pooja with pomp and gaiety on Tuesday.

 

Vehicles were specially decorated and aligned for the pooja. A number of associations had organised various contests and entertainment programmes.

 

Special rituals were performed at most of the Hindu homes, shops, workshops, commercial complexes and offices. Members of Hindu community worshipped the tools, vehicles, electrical appliances or instruments that are used in their occupation.

 

All the implements that are part of one's occupation, such as machines, vehicles, tools etc. were cleaned properly, polished and decorated. They were smeared with sandalwood paste (tilaka) and turmeric paste. Flowers were offered. They were worshipped along with the idols or images of Saraswati, Lakshmi and Parvati. According to Hindus this worship is an expression of gratitude to divine force for helping to earn. It was also a prayer and a request for successful execution of duties in the coming year.

 

Apart from business establishments, shops and petty vendors, many government officials and police officers too spruced up their work premises and bedecked them with fresh flowers, banana leaves, plantain saplings and other festival related festoons.

 

Most government offices and establishments including Mangalore City Corporation performed Ayodha Pooja.

 

During the Ayudha Pooja offered to the rifles and other armaments usually handled by the armed forces to guard citizenry in the City Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyel, DCP Muthuraya, ACP Kavitha were present among other officers.

 

Police vehicles looked clean and gleaming, decorated with flowers, and the police forces were beaming in happiness as there was peace and prosperity everywhere in the city. There were no untoward accidents or incidents, but only expressions of joy in police lines and among police officers this morning.

 

Sharavu Temple at Car Street, Mangaladevi Temple among other temples arranged special poojas on the occasion.

 

There was brisk sale of pumpkins and corns needed for the Ayudha Pooja.

 

Meanwhile political leaders and representatives of coastal districts have greeted the people of the state.

Bengaluru,  Aug 1: As many as 5,172 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Saturday, taking the state's count of coronavirus cases to 1,29,287.

The active cases in the state now stand at 73,219 while 53,648 people have been discharged.

"5,172 new COVID-19 cases and 98 deaths reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, taking total cases to 1,29,287 including 53,648 discharges and 2,412 deaths. The number of active cases stands at 73,219," said State Health Department.

So far, a total of 2,412 people have died in the state.

India, on Saturday, reported 57,117 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's coronavirus tally to 16,95,988, said the Union Health Ministry.

Mangaluru, Jul 12: No decision has been taken regarding re-imposition of complete lockdown in Dakshina Kannada, according to district in charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary. 

The minister's clarification comes following social media rumours about complete lockdown in the district from July 14 to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Speaking to media persons, Mr Poojary said that chief minister will hold video conference with Deputy Commissioners, MPs and District ministers of the state on July 13 at 11 am. following which a decision will be taken. 

He also clarified that the government will not cause inconveniences to people by taking any such decision all of a sudden. "People should not pay heed to rumours," he said.

Mangaluru, Apr 15: For the convenience of the public during the lockdown period, the Department of Posts has been providing essential services to the public at its various branch offices which are functioning from 1000 hrs to 1400 hrs.

Medicines and other essential items can be sent via parcel from any town to any place in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Arrangements are also being made to extend this facility to nearby districts. In case of sending medicines and other essentials to other states from Mangaluru, the transportation has to be done via Bengaluru and can be expedited if a request for urgency is made, says a press release from the Senior Superintendent of Posts of Mangaluru Division on Wednesday.
