CT Ravi says Yeddyurappa will not quit BJP; Slams Sonia

October 23, 2012

Mangalore, October 23: Former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa needs to do some introspection and recall his journey from being a party worker to becoming a party leader before embarking on quitting the BJP and forming a separate party, C T Ravi, DK District in charge Minister, and BJP leader, said.

He was speaking at a press meet in Mangalore on Tuesday. Responding to a media person's question as to what steps has the BJP taken to fill the void that would be created due to Mr. Yeddyurappa's exit, Mr. Ravi said that it is “too early” to comment on the issue and that he is confident that Mr. Yeddyurappa will not quit the party. “He has only given a statement. He will not do it. Whether party will suffer a loss due to his exit is a mere hypothesis. He has always advised us in party meetings and even in public meetings against betraying the party. He has always said betraying the party is like betraying one's own mother. He will not betray the party. I am confident he will not quit the party”, Mr. Ravi said.

The BJP is a cadre based party and all its leaders are people who made the journey upwards from being ordinary party activists, Mr. Ravi said, while stating that a little bit of introspection by Mr. Yeddyurappa will ensure that he stays with the party. “Unlike other parties which have family dynasties ruling, our party is a cadre based party. All our leaders including myself were nobody a few years ago. If a question were to be posed to Mr. Yeddyurappa 35 years ago, he would have said he is only an ordinary Jan Sangh activist. The party has never been unjust to him. In fact the party has stood by him in tough times and supported him always. No one asked for his resignation when he would lose elections. He was made the State President of the party. He was made the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly. The Deputy Chief Minister's post was also given to him and when it came to the Chief Minister's post too, it was unanimously decided that he is the man. Therefore there is no meaning in the claim that the party has been unjust to him. All he needs to do is think about those days and the way he has come up all over again. With that, I am sure, he will decide against leaving the party”, Mr. Ravi said.

'Sonia's Mangalore speech was a failed attempt to cover up UPA's blunders'

Mr. Ravi said on the occasion that Sonia Gandhi's allegations of misuse of Centre's funds by the state government during her recent visit to Mangalore were a futile attempt at covering up the Congress led UPA government's blunders.

“Ms. Gandhi disappointed us by not announcing a single gift for Karnataka. Her demand that the state government must answer as to what it has done with the Rs. 80,000 crores given by the Centre, was a failed attempt to escape from their blunders. It is the CAG's job to demand transaction details. Is she the UPA chairperson or some accountant general? The money given was not Congress' property. It was the tax payer's money which the Centre receives in a Federal set up. We are ready to give accounts of our spending and we will do so at the time of elections”, Mr. Ravi said.

The BJP leader alleged that the Centre has misused the tax payer's money instead and demanded that the Congress give details of black money in foreign countries. “What about the black money stocked in swiss banks? The Congress must give transaction details of that money. The Congress had assured during Lok Sabha elections that within 100 days, black money would be brought back to the country. But even after 1,200 days, it hasn't come back. We suspect that Congress has the lion's share in the black money stocked abroad. Because black money belonging to Nehru-Gandhi family is also involved, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is helpless. That is why movements of Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare are being suppressed”, he said.

Responding to Ms. Gandhi's statement that the state government could have increased the cylinder limit and reduced tax on diesel, Mr. Ravi questioned as to why the UPA government had limited the number of cylinders to six in the first place.

Nanded, May 24: In a sensational incident, a Lingayat seer from Karnataka was found murdered in his mutt in the Nanded district of Marathwada region of Maharashtra on Sunday.

The seer, who was strangled to death, has been identified as Shivacharya Nirvanarudra Pashupatinath Maharaj, the founder-spiritual head of Nirvanji Pashupatinath Mutt.

Addressing media persons, Nanded Superintendent of Police Vijaykumar Magar, the prime suspect, Sainath Langote first killed his accomplice Bhagwan Shinde and then went to the ashram late on Saturday.

He entered Shivaharya Maharaj's bedroom where he was resting and threw chilli powder in his eyes, blinding him.

Then he quickly grabbed cash of Rs 69,000, his laptop and other valuables in the bedroom worth approximately Rs.1.50 lakh, besides the seer's car keys.

As Shivacharya Maharaj attempted to grapple with him, Langote pinned him down and strangled him, then dragged his body to the sadhu's car parked outside and dumped it into the boot.

"He started the car and sped off towards the road outside, but the car crashed into the main gate of the ashram creating a noise, alerting the other sevaks sleeping inside the ashram," Magar said.

Around 8-10 other ashram sevaks rushed outside to check the ruckus and when they saw their seer's belongings and his body in the car trunck, they attempted to stop Langote, but he gave them the slip.

A short distance away, Langote managed to steal a motorbike and sped off into the darkness and hours later, the police found the body of his accomplice Shinde from a nearby school premises, Magar said.

In view of the sensitivity of the incident, Magar said around five crack teams were formed which fanned out into the district and managed to catch Langote this afternoon.

"The prima facie motive for the seer's murder was clearly robbery and the second killing could be due to rivalry or some differences among them. The absconder suspect has been caught by a police team. We will interrogate him and get further details of the crime," Magar said.

Nanded Congress strongman and PWD Minister Ashok Chavan appealed that the murder should not be politicized, since the police investigations are underway and the autopsy report is awaited.

He said the deceased sadhu belonged to the Lingayat caste, and both Shinde and Langote who belonged to the same community were his followers.

Shivacharya Maharaj had come to Nanded over a decade ago and set up the ashram which he ran along with a band of followers.

Bengaluru, Jan 22: Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai today refused to respond when a journalist asked him why Aditya Rao, who was arrested on charge of planting bomb at Mangaluru International Airport, can’t be called a terrorist.

Responding to another query of another journalist on the sidelines of a private program, here, Mr Bommai said all airports in the state would soon have bomb disposal squads.

"After the Mangaluru airport bomb incident, a thought has been given to establishing bomb disposal squads near airports in the state. Hubballi and Kalburgi airports too will have them," he said.

He said, Aditya Rao resident of Udupi who has been in a frustrated state for not getting employment and earlier too arrested for hoax calls surrendered at the DGP office in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The Mangaluru police will take him into custody for investigations, he added.

Despite the suspect surrendering to the police, investigations into the case will continue, he said.

He further added, 'Irrespective of the organisations the accused belongs to, he will be punished.”

Explosives used in the Mangaluru airport bomb have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis and investigation. National Security Guards too were collecting details, he stated.

He then went on to slam Opposition parties over Mangaluru Airport bomb incident. “State police, on getting information about the suspected bag, had acted swiftly and diffused it. The opposition has resorted to politics and using the incident to appease minorities,” he said.

He also termed that the statements made by the opposition would instigate anti-national elements.

Udupi, Feb 16: Nine people were killed after a private bus collided with a large roadside boulder in Udupi district in Karnataka on Saturday, the police said. The accident took place on Saturday evening, at around 5.45 pm, on the Mulnur Ghat at Abbas Kattingeri in Mala village, while the bus was on its way to Mangaluru from Sringeri, reported the news channel.

The bus, which was reportedly carrying around 35 passengers, was trying to manoeuvre a turn while travelling on a ghat road when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle hit a massive boulder and the impact caused seven people to die on the spot. Two others passed away while they were on the way to the hospital.

The deceased passengers have been identified as Radha Ravi, Yogendra, Preetham Gowda, Basavaraju, Angana, Sharul and Ranjitha. The cleaner of the bus was also killed in the accident.

According to reports, the passengers in the bus were mostly in their early 20s and were employees of Vital Records Private Limited near JCK Industrial Park. Century Vital Records is a data security company which works in the Hebbal Industrial Mysuru. The group was visiting Udupi, Hornadu and Kudremukh.

While some of the injured persons were rushed to Manipal hospital, others were taken to the Karkala city government hospital, police said.

The police have said that rash and negligent driving by the driver is likely to have caused the accident. A case has been registered at the Karkala Rural Police Station, the police said.

Last month, three persons were killed and four others were injured after a fatal collision between a van and a bus near Bengaluru. Both the vehicles caught fire after the impact, but while passengers of the bus, travelling from Bengaluru to Shivamogga, managed to escape, the three passengers who were trapped in the van could not escape and were charred to death.
