Three drown in separate incidents in Udupi

Udupi, October 25: Three persons including a teenager drowned in three separate incidents in Udupi district.

A student drowned in the tank of Sri Anantha Padmanabha Temple at Hebri in Karkala taluk. The deceased has been identified as Charith Nayak (20), son of Dr G D Nayak.

He had been to swimming along with his friends Varun Shyanbhag and Umesh Nayak in the temple tank. Charit drowned as it is said that he did not know swimming.

In a separate incident, 29-year-old Pramodh Kotyan died by drowning in the sea near the dock of Malpe on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when he was crossing the fishing boats that were stationed at jetty to reach out to the boat in which he was working.

In the third incident, a boy accidentally slipped into Chakra river and drowned at Kollur in Kundapur taluk. The deceased is Raghavendra (16) from Bellal in Kundapur. He was on his way to Karibail when the incident occurred.

The boy stepped into the river near bridge to wash hands and legs. He lost balance and drowned.

Three separate cases have been registered in jurisdictional police stations.

Ayodhya over, now Kashi and Mathura have to be liberated: K S Eshwarappa

Shivamogga, Aug 5: Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa on Wednesday hailed the laying of foundation stone (bhoomi pujan) for a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya and said "Kashi Vishwanath and "Krishna Janmasthan temples have to be liberated".

"It is a good day that the foundation stone for Ram Temple has been laid. A beautiful temple will come up, but there are Kashi Vishwanath and Krishna Janmasthan temples which have to be liberated," Eshwarappa said.

The minister said that there is a "sign of slavery" at Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.

"The whole nation is dreaming of Shri Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple. I have visited the two temples.

There is a sign of slavery. Mosques are there at holy places. When I visited the place at Mathura, I witnessed the wall. When we look at the wall, we feel like we are still slaves," he said.

"While visiting Kashi, there is also a structure of slavery. Dream of Hindus is fulfilled in Ayodhya. One day, it will be fulfilled in Mathura and Kashi. Mathura Sri Krishna and Kashi Vishwanath will be freed and temple will be built," Eshwarappa added.

The Places of Worship Act, enacted in 1991, says that religious character of a place of worship existing on the August 15, 1947 shall continue to be the same as it existed on that day. The Act kept Ayodhya case out of its purview.

166 stranded in UAE reach Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Jun 23: A charter flight carrying as many as 166 people including a child stranded in United Arab Emirates today reached Mangaluru.

The flight was chartered by M Friends Charitable Trust, Mangaluru and My Community Foundation with the sole intention of helping the repatriation of stranded passengers such as pregnant women, elderly people and those who are in need of emergency medical care.

The flydubia flight FZ4617 took off from Dubai at 2 p.m. and landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 7:22 p.m.

The passengers who arrived from UAE hail from different parts of coastal Karnataka and passengers themselves had borne the ticket fare for their travel.

M Friends president Haneef Haji Goltamajalu has thanked representatives of My Community Foundation and M Friends Trusty Ashraf Abbas Kunjattur, M Friends NRI leader Haneef Puttur, general secretary Rasheed Vittla for their efforts in chartering the flight.

In the last three weeks, 13 special flights with around 2150 passengers from various Gulf countries had landed at Mangaluru airport.

Already, throat swab samples of 1814 passengers, who had arrived in Mangaluru, have been tested and 239 people with international travel history have tested positive and the samples of 1,575 passengers have tested negative so far.
