
As the news spread of the kidnap, residents of Nadupadavu gathered at Konaje Police Station and demanded immediate arrest of the kidnappers. The police later arrested two accused and produced them before the court.
Nadupadavu youth Muhammad Shafi, Ismail, Nisar and Jaffer were returning back to their homes after completing their work when more than 40 people came to the spot in a Scorpio car and other vehicles and took them away forcefully to a house belonging to Kalandar Haji in Montepadavu.
The accused reportedly assaulted them with rods. One of the victims, Shafi, managed to escape from there and informed his villagers about the incident. Angered by the news, locals gathered at the Konaje Police Station, demanding arrest of the culprits.
The police came to the rescue of the other three victims and arrested two people by name Abbas and Nazir. But Kalandar, the prime accused, is yet to be apprehended by the police, it is said. The victims were admitted to Yenepoya Hospital in Deralakatte.
A case has been registered in Konaje Police Station.
