Islamic system of governance is better than 'fake democracy': Grand Mufti's Hajj sermon

Mount Arafat, October 25: The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah exhorted the global Muslims to uphold Islamic unity and set aside their differences.

Delivering the Hajj sermon at Masjid-e-Nimra, on the Day of Arafat, he reiterated that there was no association between terrorism and Islam.

The Mufti called upon the Muslim community to follow teachings of Islam to promote peace and brotherhood. He reminded Muslims that suicide is haram in Islam and those who commit it will not be forgiven.

He said Islam teaches patience and tolerance and abhors all types of violence in the society.

Addressing the pilgrims, the Mufti said that all Muslims should emerge as one economic force and focus on science and technology.

He further said that the Islamic system of governance was better than a fake democracy. Political problems can be solved through dialogue, he added.

The Mufti urged pilgrims to respect all nations. He also called upon all Muslims to unite and help each other. He said it is the prime responsibility of the Muslims not to harm anyone on the basis of caste‚ creed and religion.

He urged the Muslims to ensure their children become good Muslims and play their due role in establishing a peaceful society. He also asked the rulers to work to solve the problems faced by the people.

Mufti said Muslim countries will have to work for improving their economies to overcome socio-economic and political problems. He urged the Muslims to bring their wealth back in Muslim community.

Hajj Pilgrims Perform Wuquf-e-Arafat

Earlier pilgrims performed the most vital pillar of Hajj, Wuquf-e-Arafat (Stay at Mount Arafat).

Hundreds of thousands of Hajj pilgrims, after overnight stay in Mina, started their journey to Mount Arafat after Fajr prayers.

The world's largest annual pilgrimage, the Hajj, began on Wednesday with hundreds of thousands of Muslims pouring into the camp of Mina from Makkah to prepare for the rituals.

The pilgrims are estimated to total up to three million this year.

At Mount Arafat, around 14 kilometres southeast of Mina, the pilgrims will spend the day in prayer and reflection.

After sunset, they will move on to Muzdalifah, halfway between Mount Arafat and Mina, where they spend the night.

Bengaluru, Jan 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday called on young scientists of India to "Innovate, Patent, Produce and Prosper," and said these four steps would lead our country towards faster development. The Prime Minister also stressed on the need to transform the landscape of Indian science, technology and innovation.

"The growth story of India depends on its success in the science and technology sector. There is a need to transform the landscape of Indian science, technology and innovation," Modi said.

Speaking after inaugurating the 107th Session of Indian Science Congress, he said, "My motto for the young scientists in this country is -Innovate, Patent, Produce and Prosper. These four steps will lead our country towards faster development."

"If we innovate we will patent and that in turn will make our production smoother and when we take these products to the people of our country, I'm sure they will prosper," he said, adding that innovation for the people and by the people is the direction of our new India. The Prime Minister also said he was happy to learn that India's ranking has improved in the Global Innovation Index to 52.

"Our programmes have created more technology business incubators in the last five years than in the previous 50 years. I congratulate our scientists for this achievement," he added.

Bengaluru, May 19: Containment zones in Karnataka will be much smaller in size under the latest lockdown norms. However, rules and loopholes will be tightened and action against violators will be stringent in order to check the spread of the disease.

Revised guidelines issued by the Centre to the state, reveal containment zones are delineated based on mapping of cases and contacts. Intensive action will be carried out in these areas with the aim of breaking the chain of transmission. Therefore, the area of a containment zone should be appropriately defined by the district administration/local urban bodies with technical inputs at local level.

The health department is considering shrinking the size of containment zones from the existing 100 metres to open up more space for economic activities. Medical education minister K Sudhakar, also a member of the Covid taskforce, said additional chief secretary (health department) Javed Akthar will issue a new definition of a containment zone after the Covid-19 taskforce holds its next meeting.

“We are planning to further shrink it and restrict containment zones to an apartment complex, independent house or even a lane where the Covid-19 patient resides,” Sudhakar said. He went on to say bigger containment zones will impede businesses and normal activities in the vicinity, something which the government wants to avoid.

The minister said Karnataka will also do away with colour-coding districts. “With restrictions being relaxed for almost all activities, it does not make sense to pursue with colour codes. It is either containment zone or outside containment zone,” he said.

In rural areas, the minister said containment zones will be identified by the taluk heads. Government sources say it is difficult to restrict activities to certain areas or smaller location in rural areas as farmers and people will have to travel to the outskirts of their villages for their livelihood.

An official said, a containment operation (large outbreak or cluster) is deemed successful when no case is reported in 28 days from the containment zone.

Mangaluru, Mar 28: Dakshina Kannada District observed a total shutdown on Saturday with closure of all shops, barring milk booths and pharmacy, to prevent spread of deadly Coronavirus.

The Central Market, a hub of activities where vegetables, groceries, flowers are sold, remained closed. Despite the milk booths and pharmacies being exempted from the purview of bandh, only a few milk booths remained open here.

The administration decided to go far bandh ion the wake of people failing to follow the lockdown guidelines of maintaining social distance and some wandering on the streets without valid reason. Moreover, there was increase in the number of corona cases despite measures taken, Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh said.
