Three each chosen for Honorary and Book awards of Konkani Academy

Mangalore, October 27: The Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will honour three persons each with honorary and book awards this year.

 

Addressing media persons here, Academy chairman Kasargod Chinna said that three persons chosen for the honorary award are M Krishnaraya for his contribution to Konkani language and literature, Harry D'Souza for his contribution to Konkani art and Babi Naik for his contribution to Konkani folklore

 

The three persons chosen for the Academy's book award are Mexi G Pinto for his collection on Konkani articles 'Satham Khatham,' Ronald Vaz for his collection of poems 'Awaz' and Ron Maykal for his collection of short stories 'Modthamthlem Gulob.'

 

The Honorary award comprises Rs. 10,000 and a citation, while the Book award carries Rs. 5,000 and a citation.

 

The awards ceremony will be held at Sri Manjunath Pai cultural hall in Karkala in Udupi district on November 11.

 

Deputy Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly N Yogish Bhat will inaugurate the programme. Minister for Kannada and Culture Govind Karajol and Minister for Ports, Muzrai Kota Srinivas Poojary will confer Honorary and Book awards respectively. MLA Gopal Bhandary will preside.

 

Konkani Yuva Awards


Apart from above awards, the Academy will also confer special Konkani Yuva Award on three youth namely Mahadevi Kulal for pottery art, Vilas Nayak for painting and Mahalaxmi Shenoy for classical singing, said Mr Chinna.

Bengaluru, May 18: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge on Monday slammed the State Government’s decision to appoint administrative committees to Panchayats, which completes their five-year term, shortly.

Speaking to media persons, the Congress leader described the State Government’s decision on appointing committees as a ‘death knell ‘ to the basic characters of the Panchayat bodies, which were elected on a non-party basis.

Strongly recommending the BJP-led government to desist from its decision, Kharge urged Chief minister B S Yediyurappa to extend the term of the elected bodies of the Panchayats by six months.

Bengaluru, Feb 27: Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Wednesday said the Union Government will take up the issue of establishing a US consulate in Bengaluru during bilateral talks with the US officials in the future.

Speaking at a seminar on Videsh Sampark here, Mr Muraleedharan said after Delhi and Mumbai, a large number of visa applications come from Bengaluru. “We will take up the issue of establishing a US consulate in Bengaluru during bilateral talks,” he said.

Earlier, the chief secretary of Karnataka TM Vijay Bhaskar urged the centre to consider the state government’s demand of setting up a US Consulate in Bengaluru. At the moment visa applicants have to travel to Chennai for the purpose.

Mangaluru, Jul 17: Dakshina Kannada district Youth Congress president Mithun Rai has tested positive for the covid-19. 

Mr Rai took to social media to announce it: “I have been tested COVID19 positive & I am under Quarantine at Bangalore. With all your love and blessings, I will recover and be back soon at your service.

“My request to all those who were in close proximity with me in the last few days, kindly get yourselves checked for COVID,” he stated in a social media post on Friday.
