Mangalore's Vivekraj wins gold in national chess championship

VivekrajMangalore, October 28: Derik's Chess School talent Vivekraj has won the gold medal in Kendriya Vidyalayas' national chess championship held at Kanpur from October 15 to 20.

 

Vivekraj remained unbeaten in eight rounds to garner seven points and stood above higher seeded OT Manas (Kerala) and Prajwal Shet (Bangalore) with better tiebreak score.

 

This performance has ensured his selection to the Kendriya Vidyalaya team to participate in National inter-school chess championship 2012-13 to be organized by School Games Federation of India.

 

Vivekraj is student of Kendriya Vidyalaya number 2, Yekkur, Mangalore.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: Karnataka government will explore Ayurveda for fighting the deadly COVID-19, Ayurveda practitioner Dr Giridhar Kaje said here on Wednesday.

After meeting the Chief Minister, Dr Kaje informed media that on a trial basis, ten Coronavirus patients will be administered Ayurvedic treatment in a designated hospital.

Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has consulted senior doctors on the issue, he said.

Mangaluru, Mar 14: In a bid to prevent the coronavirus spread in the city, Mangaluru City Corporation on Saturday disallowed the street vendors to continue their business activities until further notice.

MCC Commissioner Shanady Ajith Kumar Hegde, in an order released today, warned that any vehicles, carts or trolleys that would be seen violating the order will be towed away.

The development comes in the wake of state wide ban on all shopping malls. In Mangaluru too all the malls remained shut today.

Udupi, May 21: In a shocking development, as many as 27 fresh coronavirus positive cases were reported in the coastal district of Udupi today. 

Another shocker is, 16 among 27 covid-19 patients are children. The rest are six men and five women. 

Interestingly, all of them have inter-state travel history. 23 had come from Maharashtra and 3 from Telangana. Another one had come from Kerala to Manipal. More details are awaited.
