Mangalore, October 28: ASIs in Pandeshwar Women's Police Station are behaving rudely with people approaching them for justice besides torturing them and hence must be transferred, SP Anand, Dalit representative, demanded at the monthly SC/ST grievance redressal meeting held at the Police Commissioner's office in the city on Sunday.
Airing his grievance at the meet chaired by Manish Kharbikar, Mangalore Police Commissioner, Mr. Anand said that of late many cases of ASIs troubling the people approaching the Pandeshwar Women's Police Station seeking justice have come to light. They behave rudely with them and in some instances have tortured them, he alleged, and demanded that they be transferred.
The Commissioner asked Mr. Anand to provide details with a specific case and assured action against them if found guilty following an enquiry.
Raising the issue of a death case at AJ Hospital which took place earlier this month, Mr. Anand said that there is something fishy in the victim Basavaraj's death and a proper investigation needs to be carried out. Mr. Basavaraj, who was working for Guardian Constructions, was admitted to AJ Hospital following complaints of fever, where he died. But his workplace Supervisor Vasanth has filed an UDR (Unnatural Death) report at Mangalore East (Kadri) Police Station stating that he jumped off the fourth floor.
Mr. Anand said that there were no marks on the deceased's body to suggest that he had committed suicide or fallen off from a height. The very fact that he was brought all the way to Mangalore to get admitted to the hospital from Kinnigoli while he could have been taken to a health centre in Kinnigoli itself, is paving way for doubts, he said. Kadri Police officials said that at the moment a UDR case has been filed and investigation is in the process.
