Mangalore, October 29: Businessman Sadananda Shetty will contest Assembly elections from as the Janata Dal (Secular) candidate from the Mangalore South constituency, announced H D Kumaraswamy, Former Chief Minister and JD(S) State President, at a party convention held at Town Hall in Mangalore on Monday where Mr. Shetty was officially inducted into the JD(S).

Mr. Shetty was inducted into the party along with several others including Pascal Pinto, President, United Associations of Karnataka, Kuwait, on the occasion by Mr. Kumarswamy.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that minorities must not get carried away by the recent Mangalore visit of AICC chief Sonia Gandhi. “Minorities will not get protection from Congress. The Congress party itself is in a state of mess and Ms. Gandhi's advise to party leaders about putting aside differences suggests just that. The Congress speaks about BJP's failures and corruption but none of the Congress leaders made an attempt to bring out BJP's corruption. JD(S) has been acting as the real opposition party in the state”, he said.

The Former Chief Minister also took a dig at Union Minister M Veerappa Moily for stating that the internal conflict of the BJP has ensured that Congress will win the next elections. “Moily's calculations are not going to work. People in his own Chikkaballapur constituency are plagued with problems which he has not attended to. JD(S) is not a party with kickback culture. Congress leaders are just fantasizing things and the JD(S) will make sure that regaining power for Congress is not all that easy”, he said.

Slamming his successor to the Chief Ministerial post B S Yeddyurappa, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that his governance has only burdened the people of the state with more taxes. 9 lakh beneficiaries were deprived of pensions in his tenure, he alleged.

MC Nanaiah, MLA, and senior JD(S) leader, said that people of Dakshina Kannada need to introspect as to whether BJP needs to be given another chance to rule the state. “They are the ones who sowed the seeds of 'Taliban' culture here”, he said.

Madhu Bangarappa, Amarnath Shetty, Nagaraj Shetty, MG Hegde, MB Sadashiva, Hyder Parthipady and other JD(S) leaders were present.

Mangaluru, Feb 27: An utterly unprofessional thief, who fell asleep after breaking into a house, was caught by the house owner and handed over to the police in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada.

The hilarious incident took place on Wednesday in the one-storey, tiled-roof house owned by Sudarshan at Ullas Junction under the limits of Uppinangady police station.

The thief, who gained entry into the house by removing the roof-tiles, has been identified as Anil Sahani, a native of Bihar’s Majipur district. He was snoring on the sofa with a set of keys clutched in his hand when the house owner woke up in the morning.

The house owner, who was sure that the thief was drunk, woke him up by hitting him with a stick and then handed him over to the police.

According to police, the thief was tired after removing the tiles on Tuesday night and hence he decided to take a nap soon after entering the house.

He grabbed a bunch of keys kept near the TV stand and then lied down on the sofa. He woke up only when the house owner hit him with a stick the next morning.
