DK police crack Kodimbala double murder case

Mangalore, October 30: Police have cracked the Kodimbala double murder case and arrested two people in this regard.

 

Addressing mediapersons at his office in Mangalore on Tuesday, Abhishek Goyal, SP, Dakshina Kannada district, said that accused Mohammed Rafique (33) and Kamaruddin (25) alias Sayyad have been apprehended for murdering Baby alias Thomas and Mary in Undila village of Kodimbala in Puttur taluk.

 

Mr. Goyal said that CPI Puttur (rural) had taken up the case and arrested the accused. On questioning, the accused have revealed that they were working as construction labourers for Mr. Thomas' house construction and hence had developed rapport with him and had an eye on the valuables belonging to him and his family in the house. They had been planning to carry out murder of Mr. Thomas and his wife from three months, Mr. Goyal said.

 

On September 25, the accused arrived at Mr. Thomas' house at about 12 in the night and woke him up saying that their motorcycle had got spoiled and asking him to drop them home in his car. When they approached Bolluru Cross, the accused asked him to stop the car and killed him. They took away a gold chain he was wearing and came back to his house in the same car along with his corpse and then killed his wife Mary, taking away her golden earrings. They broke the cupboards in the house looking for money and other valuables and took away two mobile phones from the house. The motorcycle and knife used for murder has been recovered while jewellery and mobile phones stolen are yet to be recovered, Mr. Goyal said.

 

The accused had the habit of gambling and hence needed money. The murders had created a tense atmosphere in Kadaba. But the murders were purely for financial gains, Mr. Goyal added, while informing that the accused do not have any past criminal record.

 

'Santhosh Rao had forcible intercourse'

 

Responding to a query on the rape and murder case of a 17 year old girl in Dharmasthala, Mr. Goyal said that police has gathered evidence that accused Santhosh Rao had engaged in forcible sexual intercourse. But the FSL report is yet to come and it needs to be tallied with that report, he said. However, circumstantial evidences and other evidences point towards his role in the crime, he said.

 

The SP also said on the occasion that he is open to handing over the investigation to another agency if the family of the victim wants to. “If they give in writing that the case must be handed over to CID or COD, we are willing to hand over”, he said.

 

'Request sent to increase police staff'

 

Mr. Goyal on the occasion said that he has requested the higher authorities and the Home Ministry to increase police staff in the district especially in the naxal affected areas.

 

“We have sent a proposal seeking augmentation of extra staff in police stations of Venur, Punjalkatte and Belthangady. We have asked for 1 PSI, 2 ASIs, 25 constables and 6 head constables for each of the stations. Besides we want to appoint 24 special officers on a temporary basis to serve in these areas. We can even appoint Malekudiyas and local tribal people for these jobs and it will provide them temporary employment and remuneration. In general, the police force in DK is working on 66% of the actual strength and there are 133 vacancies”, he revealed.

Bengaluru, Mar 27: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Friday formed a task force to monitor the spread of COVID-19 disease in the state and provide guidelines and suggestions to contain its proliferation in the state.

In a press release, the KPCC has stated that the 15 member committee will be headed by the senior Congress leader and former Health minister K R Rameshkumar also included two other former health ministers, Shivanand Patil and U T Khader as the members of the committee.

Bengaluru, June 2: A television anchor allegedly committed suicide after her boyfriend refused to marry her.

29-year-old Chandana V K made a selfie video before taking the extreme step, in which she blamed her boyfriend Dinesh for her decision.

The Suddaguntepalya police have taken up a case of abetment to suicide against Dinesh and his family, including his father Lokappa Gowda, mother Gayatri, sister Shyla and uncle Swamy alias Dayananda. The police have formed a team to nab the accused who are absconding.

Chandana, who used to also appear in real estate advertisements, was a resident of Krishnamurthy Layout in Tavarekere. She hailed from Belur in Hassan district.

According to a preliminary investigation, Chandana consumed poison after making the video.

In the video clip addressed to Dinesh, she says: "You said if I die, it is good for you. So, I am ending my life and you are the reason for it, Dinesh." She sent the clip to Dinesh, his parents, her parents and friends around 2.30 pm on May 28.

On seeing the video, Chandana's parents alerted her neighbours and asked them to go check on her. They took her to a private hospital where she died while undergoing treatment around 12.30 am on May 30.

In his police complaint, Chandana’s father said his daughter and Dinesh were in a relationship for the past five years. Dinesh had promised to marry her and both the families were aware of the relationship.

Dinesh had borrowed Rs 5 lakh from Chandana. But for the past few months, he began avoiding her and even refused to marry her. His family members told Chandana that they would get him married to someone else, the complaint said. The police said action would be initiated taken against Dinesh and his family.

Bengaluru, Jun 27: Marijuana or ganja as it is known locally, has emerged as the most peddled and seized drug in Karnataka in the first six months of 2020, a police officer has said, commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

"As many as 510 ganja cases have been registered, leading to the seizure of 312 kg of ganja in 2020," Central Crime Branch (CCB) Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Jain told media perrsons on Friday.

Cases and seizures of other drugs paled in comparison to Marijuana. Only one case each has been registered on Brown Sugar, Opium and other drug forms.

Hashish was the only other seized narcotic which weighed more than a kg at 17 kg, rest all were under a kg.

Other banned substances included charas, cocaine and MDMA.

Police also seized 91 papers of LSD and 550 tablets belonging to the Yaba, Restyl, Anxit and Nitrosun category of drugs.

Similarly, 781 Indians and 14 foreigners have been arrested in the drugs cases.

Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Director General of Police Praveen Sood and Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao were among the officials who commemorated the event which recognised police staff who cracked drug cases.

"Bommai reaffirmed the pledge to fight against drugs and continue the policy of zero tolerance (of drug abuse)," Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said.

Police showcased the seized haul of drugs to Bommai in the past one year, and the minister later rewarded the policemen involved in cracking the drugs cases in Karnataka.

Bommai and the police officials took a pledge to fight drugs on the occasion.

"The Karnataka police has been taking strict action against the drug peddlers while at the same time creating awareness among youth," added JCP Sandeep Patil.

Police also roped in celebrities such as Milana Nagaraj, Darling Krishna and former cricketer Anil Kumble to send across a social message to give up drugs.
