New hope for national aquatics from Mangalore

raoMangalore, October 30: For the first time in the last two years a Mangalore boy has earned a treasure of gold medals in the aquatic championship organised by department of public instruction at Bangalore recently.

 

M Shreyas Rao of Canara Urva High School has won four gold medals and one silver medal in the state school games Federation aquatic championship for 2012-13.

 

He has brought laurels to Mangalore by earning gold in 50 meters breast stroke, 200 meters individual medley, 50 meters butterfly and 400X100 meters relay and one silver in 400X100 meters medley relay.

 

He missed the state meet championship by just few feet and has been selected to represent Karnataka state in the national school games championship to be held at Pune Maharashtra starting from November 21 according to his coach Ramakrishna Rao. He has been trained by Umesh.

Udupi, May 31: As many as 10 people have been tested positive for coronavirus in Udupi district today. 

The district has registered a total of 187 positive cases so far. Majority of the positive cases in Udupi district have inter-state travel history to Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, 14 people including three children who recovered from COVID -19 discharged from Government Hospital in Kundapura, in Udupi district.

Kundapura AC Raju, DHO Dr Sudhirchandra Sooda, taluk medical officer Dr Nagabhushan Udupa handed over a rose to all the discharged. With this, a total of 64 persons have been recovered and discharged in the district.

Madikeri, Apr 17: A person who had returned from Spain in March was subjected to home quarantine on Thursday in Sowarpet in Kodagu district.

The person had arrived at Bengaluru on March 16 and went to Balele. Yesterday, he came to his estate house in Kumburu village in Somwarpet.

Availing the information, Tahsildar Govindaraju, police officials and health department staff visited the spot and gathered the necessary information.

Hubballi, June 8: If everything goes as expected, the railway station in Hubballi, the commercial capital of the state and also the headquarters of South Western Railway (SWR), will have the world’s longest railway platform next year.

E Vijaya, chief public relation officer of SWR, said the work is being done as part of doubling between Hubballi and Bengaluru. 

“At present, Hubballi has five platforms, and the number will be increased to eight. Inspection carriage line is getting converted to full platform. 

Platform No. 1 will be extended from 550m to 1,400m with 10m width. At present, Gorakhpur’s 1,366m platform is the world’s longest facility,” the officer said.

She added that one more entry point is coming up at Gadag Road. “Rs 90 crore is being spent on the works related to full yard, signalling, electrical and building. 

The works, started in November 2019, will be completed in the next one year,” said Vijaya.
