Mangalore, October 31: A delegation of victims led by M G Hegde, JD(S) leader, have demanded Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar to take action against Kalmadi Jagannath Joshi of Thokkottu for duping people in the name of astrology and cheating them in property dealings.
Addressing media persons outside the Police Commissioner's office in Mangalore on Wednesday, Mr. Hegde said that Joshi has been duping people by offering to provide door to door 'pooja' services assuring them of solving their problems, whereby taking away gold and other ornaments from them with a false assurance of returning them.
Vijay of Shaktinagar, one of the members present in the delegation, said that Joshi had acquired his property through false assurances. He got an agreement signed and took custody of the property papers of his house in Shaktingar while assuring him that he will get another house constructed for him besides bearing the rent expenses for him until then. “Neither has he paid the rent, nor is the house being constructed. He has occupied my house now. When I ask him about his promise, he uses harsh words and threatens me”, Mr. Vijay alleged.
Mr. Hegde also revealed that Joshi has cheated Aitha of Thokkottu, who hails from an SC/ST background. “He (Joshi) has forged the ownership documents of Mr. Aitha by tampering with the RTC, getting Mr. Aitha's property transferred to his wife's name and has then gone on to sell it to Chandrashekhar Uchil, a BJP leader of the region. The land Mr.Uchil now owns is an SC/ST land, the transfer of which to non-SC/ST according to law is not permissible. It shows that Joshi is not only politically motivated but has been assisted by government officials too”, said Mr. Hegde.
The delegation sought the intervention of the Police Commissioner and demanded that a single officer be appointed to probe all irregularities of Joshi and his family members including Ratnavati, his wife, Chandrashekhar and Ganesh, his sons, Geeta Harish Suvarna, and Harish Suvarna, as they too are involved in all his illegal activities. DCP Mutturaya accepted the memorandum from the delegation on behalf of Mr. Kharbikar.
