Mangalore, October 31: Mangalore police arrested two persons on Wednesday on charges of chain-snatching in the city.
Acting on a tip off, police arrested Vincent D'Souza (48) and Naveen Sequeira (39) from Hotel Blue Star in Falnir. Four gold necklaces have been recovered from the arrested.
In three separate instances, two necklaces weighing 18 sovereign altogether were snatched from a woman in Mangalore East (Kadri) police station limits on October 3, one weighing 7 sovereign from another woman in Mangalore North (Bunder) police station limits a month ago in September and another weighing 7 sovereign from another woman in Barke police station limits eight months ago in February, according to police sources.
The police have also recovered a TVS motorcycle bearing registration KA 19 ED 3014 belonging to Vincent which the duo used to carry out their theft. It has been said that the chain-snatching duo had also made an attempt near Agnes College 15 days ago, but was unsuccessful.
Vincent D'Souza, son of late Ladin D'Souza, is a resident of Ullal Hoige while Naveen Sequeira, son of Montu Sequeira, is from Thokkottu. It has been said that the notorious Naveen already had a case of chain-snatching on him 3-4 years ago.
Sleuths attached to Mangalore North Police Station including ASI Shashikanth, Ramakrishna, Rajesh Alva, Venkatesh, Balakrishna, Ravi and Mahesh followed the leads and captured the two.
