Don't spread misapprehensions about Mangalore Airport: Vasudeva says in farewell message

Mangalore, October 31: Mangalore Airport belongs to the people of Mangalore and now it is up to them and everyone connected to it, to see to it that no more room for misapprehensions regarding it given, M R Vasudeva, Outgoing Director, Mangalore International Airport, said.

He was speaking at a farewell programme organized by Airport employees at the old airport premises in Bajpe on Wednesday.

Recalling that the airport was in no way connected to the infamous air crash, Mr. Vasudeva said that unnecessary hue and cry was made about the incident. “Just five hours later we could commission the runway. Flights landed there immediately after. There was no ghost and nothing was wrong. Please make sure that you do not allow these misapprehensions and any wrong notions about the airport in the future”, he said.

Mr. Vasudeva said that it was able for him to transform a small airport at Bajpe to an international airport with the support of his seniors in Airport Authority of India (AAI) and also the different strata of people and local populace. “With the cooperation of locals, prepaid taxi services began in 1996 when the concept was not there in Mangalore at all”, he recalled.

He said that by handling a weight of 1,50,000 kgs of the Airbus aircraft, the airport has proved that it is capable of handling heavy aircrafts. Mr. Vasudeva also said that his successor GT Radhakrishnan was also a part of the new terminal building project and expressed happiness about AAI appointing a man familiar with Mangalore Airport to take charge as the next Director.

D Davaraj, Regional Executive Director, AAI, said that Mr. Vasudeva was able to get the new airport terminal operational within a month of his transfer. The Airport has now been ugraded to international standards and the air cargo complex is likely to be commissioned by next month, he said.

Mr. Vasudeva and his wife Nagarathna Rao were felicitated by Dr. D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, on the occasion.

Mangaluru, Jul 19: Palakkad Division of Southern Railway that has jurisdiction over Mangaluru Railway region has established a business development unit (BDU) to cater to the transportation of various sectors, including non-bulk goods traffic, namely, white goods, finished products, manufactured products, agricultural produce and raw material.

In a statement issued here on Sunday said that the BDU’s mandate was to facilitate seamless interaction between the Railways on the one hand and industry, trade representatives and rail freight customers on the other at appropriate zonal or divisional levels. The unit was also expected to help expeditious clearance of their proposals for freight movement.

Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager Pratap Singh Shami established the BDU in line with the similar unit at the zonal level with other divisions of SR too setting up similar units. Palakkad BDU would work under the supervision of Additional DRM-II CT Sakkeer Hussain while Senior Divisional Operations Manager PL Ashok Kumar was its convener with Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Jerin G Anand, Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer KV Sundaresan and Senior Divisional Finance Manager AP Sivachandrar were its members.

Bengaluru, May 22: Karnataka government on Thursday said that there will be no inter-district check-posts for health screening in the State.

"There will be no inter-district check-posts for health screening in the State. Any health screening for passengers travelling by public transport -- buses and trains -- will be done at the origin of the journey and all those passengers found asymptomatic will be allowed to travel," reads the statement issued by the Commissionerate of Health and Family Welfare Services.

It further reads: "The agencies running public transport (KSRTC and others, Indian Railways, private bus operators) should ensure health screening of passengers before the start of the journey. There will be no health screening of passengers travelling by private vehicles across districts in Karnataka."

Mangaluru, Apr 18: Food kits were distributed to as many as 100 needy Beary poets, writers and artistes’ on behalf of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy at a simple ceremony held at the Academy office here on Friday.
 
The service initiative during the Lockdown was taken up as per the guidance of Minister for Kannada and Culture C T Ravi.
 
Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary distributed the kits to the beneficiaries.
