Manjeshwar, November 4: A truck driver from Malappuram was killed and another man escaped with injuries when the sugar-laden vehicle overturned near Kumbla on Saturday, police said.
The mishap occurred around 1 p.m. when its driver, Sidique (40) lost control of the vehicle while giving way to a speeding private bus coming from opposite direction and fell into a 100 foot deep roadside ditch near a petrol pump at Shiriya locality, police said.
The mishap occurred when the truck driver veered to the edge of the road to give side to a bus, proceeding to Mangalore from Kasaragod, tried to overtake a car.
The truck driver lost control, leading to the vehicle falling into a 100-feet roadside pit, they said.
The police from Kumbla and fire force personnel from Uppala rushed the spot to carry out the rescue operation. However, Siddique, a native of Vaniyambalam near Vandoor in Malappuram district, died on way to hospital. Mr. Subair, a crew of the truck, escaped with minor injuries.
