Mangalore: Ajmer Dargah chief booked for provocative speech at PFI convention

Mangalore, November 6: The city police have registered a case against President of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah Syed Sarwar Chishti for allegedly making provocative and inflammatory speech here last week.

 

"The contents of Chisht's speech at a public meeting at Nehru Maidan in the city on November 2 attracted the provision of 153-A 1 (a) of Indian Penal Code”, a police officer said.

 

The contents of Ajmer Dargah chief's speech were offensive and tended to promote enmity, hatred and ill-will between the two communities, he said.

 

Addressing thousands of people at a programme organised by Popular Front of India as part of its nationwide campaign 'Why Popular Front?', Chishti went on to claim that if Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi became Prime Minister of India, all Muslims of India would become terrorists.

 

Enraged by this statement Sunil Kumar, a resident of Pumpwell had lodged a complaint with Pandeshwar police station demanding action against communally provocative remarks. Investigations are on.

Bengaluru, Apr 28: There are a total of 523 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, Department of Health and Family Welfare of Karnataka informed on Tuesday.
It informed that there are 295 active COVID-19 cases in Karnataka presently, while 207 patients have been discharged, 20 deaths have been reported.

According to a district-wise breakup, a maximum of 131 cases were reported from Bengaluru urban, followed by Mysuru with 87 cases and Belagavi with 52 cases.

India's total number of coronavirus positive cases rises to 29,974 (including 22010 active cases, 7027 cured/discharged/migrated and 937 deaths), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Tuesday.

Bengaluru, May 8: 45 more COVID-19 cases have been reported from Karnataka, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the state to 750, the state Health Department said on Friday.

According to the Health Department, the total cases include 371 discharged cases and 30 deaths.

Mangaluru, Apr 1: Dakshina Kannada District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Tuesday announced that essential shops including grocery stores, fruits and vegetable shops will be allowed to open from Wednesday between 0700 hrs to 1200 hrs across the district.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that Milk, Medical, Gas distribution, Petrol Bunks, Banks will be opened as usual, he informed adding that Central Market and the Suratkal Market will remain closed.

With the Dakshin Kannada district administration relaxing the lockdown from 0600 hrs to 1500 hrs to purchase essential commodities, panic-stricken citizens rushed to the shops early in the morning itself.
