Mangalore, November 7: Members of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held a protest in Mangalore on Wednesday opposing the state government's decision to introduce National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for entrance in medical education from the current academic year itself, calling the move 'uncientific'.
Karnataka has entered into an agreement with the Central government in this regard while states like Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra have expressed opposition to start NEET exams from this academic year. But the Karnataka state government has shown that its policies are anti-student, said Yatish Kumar P, City Secretary, ABVP.
Since science students of the state would be coming from state syllabus background unlike students writing NEET exams who are from the central syllabus background, there are chances of students from Karnataka missing out and hence it must not be introduced from this academic year, he said.
The organization has demanded that the state government come out of the agreement made with the central government.
