Hooligans kidnap minor girl, attempt gang-rape; three held

Mangalore, November 7: A 15-year-old girl was rescued after she was allegedly kidnapped by a gang of miscreants, who tried to gang-rape her at a village in Belthangady taluk.

 

Police have arrested three persons in this connection. They are Irshad Arambodi, Asif and Navaz Kundadabettu. Three other accused - Hyder alias Santhu, Navaz and Santhosh Shetty - who allegedly joined them in the heinous crime are absconding. All aged around 20-25 year old.

 

According to a complaint filed by the victim, a high-school student and a resident of Addoor, on November 6 the accused threatened her and dragged her into an auto-rickshaw near Venur bus stand and took her to a secluded place and tried to gang-rape her.

 

Police sources said that the girl was brought from Moodbidri bus stand to Venur by a group of five or six youngsters in a private bus. After getting down at Venur bus stand, three among them took the girl in an auto-rickshaw to a house in Koliangadi.

 

It is learnt, that the main accused Irshad had asked the girl to meet him at Moodbidri bus stand. Sources said that Irshad used to visit girl's house and once had raped her at her house.

 

Turning suspicious about their movement, a group of villagers followed the auto-rickshaw and then informed the police.

 

When the Venur police went to the house, the youths tried to flee. However, police managed to nab three accused.

 

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal said as the girl was minor, police registered a suo motu case of kidnap against the accused and it was transferred to Bajpe police station. The Bajpe police formally arrested the trio and launched a search operation to nab other accused.

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 1: Karnataka’s twin costal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have recorded 10 more deaths related to covid-19. 

With four more deaths, Dakshina Kannada’s covid-19 death toll mounted to 159. Udupi’s covid-19 death toll mounted to 35 with 6 new deaths. 

Meanwhile, DK recorded 139 new covid positive cases. Among them 91 are from Mangaluru, 19 from Bantwal, 14 from Beltangady, nine from Puttur, and six from other districts.

With this, the total number of the covid-10 cases in DK reached 5,852. Out of these only 3,008 cases are currently active. 

On the other hand, Udupi recorded 136 new covid-19 cases. The total number of covid-19 cases reported in the district mounted to 4,492. 

According to the official bulletin, a total of 32,401 samples have been collected so far. Among them 27,463 have turned out to be negative and 446 reports are awaited.

Davanagere, Apr 8: BJP MLA from Honnali constituency, MP Renukacharya, said that the government should not ignore those who attended Tablighi Jamaat event in Delhi and are escaping detection, and it is not wrong if the person is shot.

"Anyone who attended Tablighi meet, is not coming out for medical checkups and is escaping detection. The government should not ignore them. Even if he is shot, it is not wrong. Otherwise, the virus will spread throughout the entire country. In China it started with one person," Renukacharya said on Tuesday.

"We are suffering because someone is not coming for check-up. I request them to come voluntarily to the doctors and District Magistrates. Not all minorities are terrorists and not all of them are anti-nationals," he added.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking direction for the government to impose a complete ban on all activities of the Tablighi Jamaat with immediate effect.

Over 1,000 coronavirus cases in India are linked to Tablighi Jamaat gathering. Hundreds of people who are related to Tablighi Jamaat have been quarantined.

Bengaluru, Mar 28: Karnataka government on Saturday launched a food helpline number --155214-- for the labourers who have been affected due to lockdown imposed by the central government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

This came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country effective from midnight to deal with the spread of the coronavirus, saying that " social distancing" is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.
Similarly, other states including Delhi have started both official and non-official helpline numbers for necessary assistance.
Both the government institutions and social organizations are contributing together in the fight against coronavirus during the lockdown.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 918 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases in the country and 19 fatalities have been reported.
