Mangalore, November 8: Three men posing as police officers fooled an elderly woman near Landlinks Township in Konchady on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday and made off with her gold necklace worth Rs 60,000.
Leela (68), resident of Konchady Brahmanadakodi, was approached by the three men while she had been walking near Landlinks. They began conversing with her. Convincing her that they were police personnel, the men cautioned her that the area was unsafe and got her to hand over her gold necklace to them.
One of them swiftly swapped the necklace weighing 2.5 sovereign for a rope, and after wrapping it tightly in a paper, they fled from the spot after handing it back to her. On checking the contents of the wrapped paper package, she realised that she had been duped.
A case has been registered at Kavoor police station based on a complaint lodged by the woman.
