PFI defends Ajmer Dargah chief's Modi-terror remarks, claims he was 'quoted out of context'

Mangalore, November 8: Justifying the recent controversial remarks made by the Ajmer Dargah chief at a public meet in the city, Popular Front of India (PFI) said that his speech was neither inflammatory nor communally-provocative.

 

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, PFI State Committee member Abdul Razaq Kemmara said that the comments of President of Ajmer Sharif Dargah Syed Sarwar Chishti was misinterpreted and taken in a wrong context.

 

He said that registering case against Chishti for his comments is a deliberate attempt to spread malice by contemptible and fascist forces. “This is highly condemnable,” he said.

 

“Ajmer Sharif Dargah has, for many years now, been a site and symbol of communal harmony and integration. We defend the comments made by its chief Chishti and proclaim that they were not provocative. We will substantiate it with continuous, unedited footage of the entire speech,” said Mr Kemmara.

 

Urging the complainant to withdraw his “false complaint” against Chishti, he said that PFI would struggle against the case within the jurisdiction of law.

 

PFI State Committee member P Abdul Khader said that it is wrong to assume that Chishti gave a call to all Muslims to become terrorists. He merely expressed fear about the fact that the situation could become harsh for Muslims in the country if Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was to become Prime Minister of India, he said.

 

It may be recalled here that Mangalore police had registered a case against Chishti on charges of making provocative and inflammatory speech at a public meet organised by PFI at Nehru Maidan on November 2. Chishti had stated that if Modi became Prime Minister of India, all Muslims of India would become terrorists.

New Delhi, May 1: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Friday issued an order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005 to further extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4.

The current lockdown period is scheduled to end on May 3.

"After a comprehensive review and in view of the lockdown measures having led to significant gains, the COVID-19 situation in the country, Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, today, to further extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4, 2020," read the order of the Home Ministry.

In red zones and outside containment zones, certain activities including plying of cycle rickshaws and auto-rickshaws, taxis and cab aggregators, intra-district and inter-district plying of buses and barber shops, spas and salons will be prohibited in addition to those prohibited throughout India.

A limited number of activities will remain prohibited across the country, irrespective of the zone, including travel by air, rail, metro and inter-state movement by road, running of schools, colleges, and other educational and training/coaching institutions, the order said.

This came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with chief ministers of several states last month where some of them suggested extension of lockdown.

Kozhikode, Feb 28: Nearly 200 Umrah pilgrims from Kerala were deboarded from their flights to Saudi Arabia from Calicut international Airport here on Thursday after the gulf nation enforced a temporary ban on foreigners seeking to visit the holy cities of Makkah and Madina, following coronavirus scare.

Saudi Arabia halted travel to the holiest sites in Islam over fears about a viral epidemic just months ahead of the annual hajj pilgrimage, a move that came as the Mideast has over 240 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus.

According to Airports Authority of India officials, as many as 84 of passengers from the Saudi Airlines and 104 from the Spice Jet Airlines were denied permission to board the flights and travel to Saudi Arabia.

However, other passengers bound to Jeddah were permitted to fly, they said.

A private tour operator here said two batches of 40 pilgrims each were denied permission to travel to Makkah to perform Umrah on February 27.

Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage that can be performed at any time of year.

"The pilgrims were denied entry by the two airlines, Spice Jet scheduled at 05.30 hrs and Saudi Airlines at 1130 hrs," Naiful Akbar, a travel agent said.

The Airport Authority of India sources said, "the passengers were asked to alight by the Spice Jet airline staff following an instruction received by them."

New Delhi, July 29: The government of India today announced Unlock 3.0, lifting of night curfew from August 1 and opening of yoga institutes and gymnasiums from August 5 while educational institutes will remain closed throughout August.

According to the Unlock 3.0 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the lockdown in containment zones will be extended until August 30. The new guidelines will be in effect from August 1.

The operation of Metro rail and international flights will remain suspended. Cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars, auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places will remain shut. Large gatherings are also prohibited.

Yoga institutes and gymnasiums will start operating from August 5 for which the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be issuing Standard Operating Procedures. 

Independence Day celebrations will be held with social distancing norms in place.

Restrictions on the movement of individuals during the night (Night curfew between 10 PM and 5 AM) have been removed.

According to the order, states have been given powers to prohibit certain activities outside containment zones or impose such restrictions as deemed necessary based on their assessment of the situation.

"However, there shall be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods. No separate permission/approval/e-permit will be required for such movements," the order said. 

In the previous two Unlock guidelines, the government had substantially opened various activities.
