Mangalore, November 10: Students of degree and post-graduate colleges belonging to Mangalore University All College Students' Association (ACSA) staged a day-long hunger strike demanding high level investigation from the police department in Soujanya rape-murder case and Deepika's death due to medical negligence.

Speaking on the occasion, ACSA legal advisor Dinakar Shetty said that the police had been ineffective in conducting proper investigations in the cases of Deepika and Soujanya.

CBI investigation is necessary in the case of Soujanya, so that a clear and transparent investigation is done, and the real culprits are nabbed. Suspicions of the locals contend involvement of two others in the murder, who should be nabbed. As per the details given by Superintendent of Police, there hasn't been a clear picture of the case and its course of investigation. A memorandum will be submitted to the State government through the Deputy Commissioner urging for a CBI investigation, he said.

As for the case of Deepika, so far only one accused Dr Vijaykumar of J S Hospital has been arrested for medical negligence, while there were others equally responsible for her death. No action on the accused female doctor and other staff was taken even after a memorandum was submitted to Ullal police station. We urge the concerned police that the other accused mentioned in the complaint also be arrested and interrogated, he said.

A memorandum will be submitted to the Commissioner of Police via DC regarding this, he said.

Association president Uttam Alva, PG Association president Prateek J P and other student leaders Shipal Raj, Rahul Raj Prakash, Karthik Nayak, Nagarjuna, Anola K J, Nithin Mada, Akshat K, Balraj Shetty, Abhishek B Shetty, Ashwat Kottari and Gautam Brahmavar took part in the hunger strike from 8.30 am to 5 pm.

Bengaluru, Jul 11: Karantaka Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Friday raised questions over claims that Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project Madhya Pradesh was "largest in Asia" and said a 2000 MW had been built in the state.

"BJP central government is claiming today that it inaugurated Asia's largest solar plant of 750 MW at Rewa, MP. What then is the 2000 MW Solar Plant in Pavagada, Karnataka which was built in just 3 years by Karnataka Congress government and has been operational since 2018?" Shivakumar said in a tweet.

The Congress leader further said that the most unique thing about the solar project set up in Karnataka was that the farmers were being paid yearly rents for the land upon which it was constructed as it had been leased and not purchased from them, helping them retain ownership.

"The unique thing about the 2000 MW Pavagada Mega Solar Park was that not a single acre of land was acquired from the farmers. All 13,000 acres have been leased from the farmers who are being given yearly rent. Karnataka model of renewable energy was accepted as the best in India," he said.

"Union power minister must answer as to how the Central Government can claim that the Rewa Solar Park (750 MW) opened today is Asia's largest when clearly the Pavagada Park in Karnataka is much larger (2000 MW) and was opened two years back!" he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project to the nation on Friday.

She was charged with sedition for her actions in the presence of All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi.

The court granted bail after hearing the bail application. Amulya's advocate on behalf of the petitioner said, "the petitioner is just a 19-year-old lady and she is studying in a private college in the Bengaluru. She shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' but she never mentioned Pakistan as her country."
