Local residents and children were startled by the sight of severed head at the entrance gate of the Madrasa run by the managing committee of the Jumma Masjid at Ganemmar, a hamlet located between the two peaceful villages of Badagabail and Ammunje.
It is not immediately known who strapped the severed head to the Madrasa gate, but local Muslims have accused the communal outfits of trying to instigate riots.
A tense atmosphere prevailed in the area following the discovery, as dozens of people gathered outside the Madrasa.
Bantwal rural police rushed to the spot and seized the pig head after dispersing the mob.
The clerics and representatives of the management committee of the Madrasa and Masjid have appealed the local residents to maintain peace.
Circle Inspector Anil Kulakarni and Sub Inspector Mahesh Prasad visited the spot to take stock of the situation and expressed confidence to nab the culprits.
A case has been registered based on a complaint lodged by Badruddin, a member of the committee.
