Mangalore, November 14: Oscar award winning Sound-designer, sound-editor and mixer Resul Pookutty will be in the city on December 13, 2012.

 

He will be here to inaugurate a two-day national level seminar on 'Media-Ethics and Practices' organized by the Department of Journalism of Besant Women's College, Mangalore in association with the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Mangalore University.


According to a press release, Journalist Shreekumar Varma Chennai will deliver key note address.

 

Dr Sebastian Paul, Prof D S Poornananda and  national award winning film director Abhaya Simha would be the main speakers.

 

Technical session will shed light on issues such as insensitive reporting and invasion of privacy by the Media, Social media- Facebook and Twitter in moulding public opinion, Television rating wars- threats and quality risk, Effects of cinema on society and Media legislation and regulations.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: A 66-year old man from the city, became the thirteenth COVID-19 related fatality in Karnataka, Health Department officials said on Thursday.

The elderly patient from Bengaluru, who was coronavirus positive died on April 15 at Victoria Hospital in the city, officials said.

"He was referred from a private hospital and was admitted in Victoria Hospital and was on ventilator support since April 10," they added.

A 80-year old woman in Belagavi and a 65-year old man from Chikkaballapura had also died on Wednesday.

Bengaluru, Jun 22: The opening of Schools in the state, is unlikely before Dasara festival, as a majority of the parents are averse to send their children due to the COVID-19 scare.

According to official sources, in the State education department, a majority of parents, who were asked to give their opinion on re-opening of schools in the state, have reportedly favoured continuing the closing of schools till September.

The primary and Secondary education department had received feedback from various stakeholders including educational institutions, parents and Teachers, clocking high towards not opening the schools for the 2020-21 academic year till Dasara days.

Mangaluru, Jul 19: In the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown imposed till July 23, streets in the Dakshina Kannada district here bore a deserted look today (Sunday) morning.

The state government had allowed relaxation hours between 8 am to 11 am in the week-long total shutdown. However today there was no relaxation. 

All shops including those selling essential commodities were also seen closed in the district today. Besides, barricades were also seen stationed at different junctures on the road.

As per Karnataka's COVID-19 information portal, a total of 59,652 coronavirus cases have been reported in the state, including 36,631 active cases and 21,775 recoveries. So far, 1,240 people have died due to the infection in the state. 

Dakshina Kannada so far recorded 3,311 covid-19 positive cases and 75 deaths.
