Cold War' at City Centre attracts 300 enthusiasts

Mangalore, November 15: After Biryani War, it was the 'Cold War', an ice-cream eating competition organised on Wednesday by The 3 Hungry Men in association with City Centre, Mangalore.

The day being a public holiday, dozens gathered at the City Centre Food Court in the noon to indulge in ice-creams. The mega-contest saw almost 300 participants, of all ages, taking part. It was conducted in 15 rounds in categories such as Under 15, Above 15 – male and female, and couples.

According to Nikhil Pai of The 3 Hungry Men, few girls polished off four Choco-bars in five minutes. There were participants ranging from four-year-olds to a 55-yr-old couple.

In the kids' category (under 15), Vilas emerged winner, whereas Staj Soften grabbed the first spot in the above 15 male category. Staj, a student of Alva's Institute of Engineering & Technology, finished off a cone of ice-cream in less than 10 seconds.

Prizes were sponsored by Bindu (Sip-On juice) as well as Reliance Timeout and City Centre. The event was powered by Hangyo Ice-Creams Ltd.

Mangaluru, Apr 18: The residents of Thokkottu welcomed a COVID-19 patient who was cured and discharged from hospital with a standing ovation. 

The man remained in quarantine after returning from Tablighi Jammat religious gathering at Nizamuddin in Delhi. He was tested positive for COVID-19 on April 4 and was shifted to Wenlock Hospital for treatment.

After he was tested positive, a complete lockdown was announced within a 200-metre radius of the apartment where he was residing at Thokkottu.

The cured patient will have to remain quarantined at home for the next 14 days.

He has thanked the doctors, nurses and paramedical staff of Wenlock Hospital who took care of him in the hospital. 

In the meantime, 12 COVID-19 patients out of 13 have been cured and discharged from the hospital in Dakshina Kannada district.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai had warned those who chose to defy the lockdown order clamped in nine districts, to prevent the spread of the dreaded COVID-19 virus in the state. 

Speaking to newsmen, he said, "We have ordered for a lockdown in nine districts in the state to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and issued guidelines to follow it."

The nine COVID-19-affected districts are Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Mysuru, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada (Mangaluru), Dharwad, Belagavi, Kalaburgi and Chikkablapur.

According to Mr. Bommai, the State government will put in place further measures next week depending on how the situation will unfold in the State and the neighbouring States.

"Government offices will be operational in the State, including in the nine COVID 19-affected districts. As per the current schedule, the legislature sessions will also continue. Pourakarmikas will be working at 50% strength," he added.

Mangaluru, Jun 28: In an attempt to curb fast spreading Coronavirus and to bring discipline among the public to follow the guidelines and also as it was found difficult to control the visitors, the City Corporation Mayor Diwakar has ordered closure of the office for one week with immediate effect from Monday.

Public will be banned from entering the MCC building for a period of one week from Monday, he said.

In a circular the Mayor has requested the public to co-operate and help the administration to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

However, a help desk will be set up outside the MCC building where people can submit their applications and requests.
