Honest auto-rickshaw driver Abdul Sattar sets example

Bantwal, November 15: An auto rickshaw driver from BC Road has set an example by returning valuables to their owners twice within a week.

He is Abdul Sattar (38), son of Late Abdul Rahman of BC Road.

Last week, a resident of BC Road Lalitha Salian who was leaving for Bangalore, was busy speaking to her relatives at the BC Road bus stand. Lost in the conversation, she kept her bag containing cash and mobile phone at the bus stand itself and boarded the bus.

Mr. Sattar who noticed it, took it and brought to the notice of Ms. Salian who had already boarded the bus. Ms. Salian and her family members were taken aback by Mr. Sattar's honesty and offered to give a prize to him, which he smilingly refused.

The same week on November 10, Vijay Rao, a lecturer working at SVS College, Bantwal, boarded Mr. Sattar's auto rickshaw to go to Narikombu. She had got down from the auto leaving her bag containing cash, a gold chain, and mobile phone.

Since Ms. Rao was aware of Mr. Sattar's place of residence, she went to his house along with her husband and informed of the missing bag to his wife. She collected his mobile number from her and informed about the bag after which Mr. Sattar searched for it in his auto immediately and came home with it to return it to the waiting couple. On this occasion too, Mr. Sattar refused to accept any prize.

Mr. Sattar has carried out such good works several times in the past. On one occasion in the past when a lady had thrown her female child into the Netravathi River, Mr. Sattar had thrown himself into the waters to rescue the child, thereby winning the title of 'Netravathi Veera' from Koolya Swamiji.
