Antony to open HAL unit in Kasargod on Nov 17

Mangalore, November 16: The newly constructed Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Strategic Electronics Factory will be dedicated to the nation by Union Defence Minister A K Antony in Kasargod on Saturday.

The factory, which is located at Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) Industrial Park, at Seethangoli, 12 kilometres away from Kasargod, will produce advanced avionics for aircraft and helicopters.

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the production facilities on the occasion.

The foundation stone for the construction of the factory buildings was laid by A K Antony four years back, on August 23, 2008. The Kerala Government has allotted 196 acre of land for the factory. The first phase of the factory has been setup at a cost of Rs 66 crore.

Presently, seven buildings are dedicated for various activities like production, administration, technical services, materials management, security, medical, canteen and for government agencies (Air Force and DGAQA).

A sub-station has also been set up. The factory will produce airborne special purpose computers like mission computer, display processor, radar computers and open architect mission computer for SU-30, LCA and MiG-27.

The factory will further expand in phase-II to undertake the manufacture of avionics for medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) like automatic electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, electronic warfare suite and communication and navigation equipment.

The facilities and expertise acquired at this factory for advanced avionics of MMRCA would be used for various upcoming projects like fifth generation fighter aircraft (FGFA), Multirole Transport Aircraft (MTA), Light Utility Helicopter, Light Combat Helicopter, Medium Lift Helicopter and unmanned Aerial vehicles.

HAL Chiarman R K Tyagi, Defence Production Secretary R K Mathur, Kasargod MP P Karunakaran, Manjeshwar MLA P B Abdul Razak, Kasargod MLA N A Nellikkunnu, Kerala Minister for Industries and IT P K Kunhalikutty, former minister of industries Elamaram Kareem will also be present during the inaugural function.

Bengaluru, Feb 10: Smoke entered wards at Sagar Hospital following a short circuit in the UPS room, said the fire department here on Sunday.

"Smoke entered wards at Sagar Hospital in Bengaluru, following a short circuit in the UPS room at the hospital today. Patients have been shifted from the site of the incident, as a precaution," the fire department in Bengaluru said.

"No fire incident reported and the situation is under control now," the fire department said.

Mangaluru, May 12: Air India will operate two flights - one each from Doha and Muscat - to bring back stranded Kannadigas from Qatar and Oman to Mangaluru next week. 

The flight from Muscat to Mangaluru will be operated on May 20 via Bengaluru. It will depart from Muscat International Airport at 1.15 pm local time and reach Bengaluru at 6.15 pm. After the layover at Bengaluru airport, the flight will take off at 7.15 pm and land at Mangaluru International Airport at around 8.10 pm.

Doha – Bengaluru – Mangaluru flight is will be operated May 22. The flight will take off from Doha at 1.30 pm local time and will land at Bengaluru at 8 pm. It will take off from Bengaluru at 9 pm and land at Mangaluru airport around 9.35 pm.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: Following the alarming increase in Coronavirus cases, Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao on Monday said that those subjected to home quarantine stamping would be arrested if they were found to visit public places.

"5,000 Home quarantine stamping was carried to ensure that they remain in home and not to be seen in public places for their own interest as well as in an attempt to prevent spread of Coronavirus", he tweeted.

"I have received information on some of those stamped are moving in BMTC (Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation) buses and sitting in restaurants. Please call 100, these people will be picked up, arrested and sent to government quarantine," Rao said.
