Bhatkal, November 16: Sadashiva Nagappa Naika, 26, who had been arrested by the Bhatkal police for allegedly raping, robbing and murdering an elderly woman, has confessed to the crime, police sources sadi.
45 year old Kalpana Ashoka Mahal who had been missing since November 4 from Jaali village in Bhatkal taluk, was found murdered in the Konar forest area on November 11.
The police recovered the valuables worth over Rs 75,000 from the accused and launched manhunt for another accuses who is still at large.
Police sources said that the accused had raped and killed Kalpana by crushing her head with stones. Her body was recovered in a highly decomposed state.
The accused was involved in several crimes in the past. In June 2009, he had set ablaze a shop. However, he had escaped from police hands by sprinkling chilli powder on eyes of police.
Under the guidance of Bhatkal SP K T Balakrishna and ASP Sudheer Reddy, the CPI Beliyappa and rural PSI Naveen Chandra Jogi, Prakash Devadiga, Lakkappa Naika succeeded to arrest the accused.
