Udupi, November 19: A state level primary and secondary school boys and girls chess tournament-2012 has been organised by Mount Rosary English Medium School, Santhekatte, Kalyanapura Udupi District, on behalf of Education department, Government of Karnataka.

The Tournament was inaugurated by Mr K Jayaprakash Hegde, Member of Parliament, Udupi and Chikkmagalur Constituency on Saturday at Mount Rosary School, Santhekatte, Kalyanapura.

The Other dignitaries on the dais were, Mr Raghupathi Bhat, MLA, Udupi, Mr Pramod Madwaraj, Malpe, Smt Mallika Ashok, Zilla Parishat Member, Mood Thonse, Smt Sunitha S Poojary, President, Grama Panchayath, Mooda Thonse, Rev. Fa. Philiph Merry Aranha, Priest, Mount Rosary Church, Kalyanpura, Mr Jeery Vincet, Vice President, School Welfare Committee. Mr S Nagendra Madhyastha, DDPI, Udupi, Sri Nagesh Shyanbaug, BEO, Brahmavara, Sri Seethanadi Vittala Shetty, DPEO, Udupi, Mr Madhukar S, TPEO, Brahmavar, Sister Edrian Seravo, Head Mistress, Mount Rosary English Medium School, Santhekatte, Kalyanapura.

Nikilesh M Holla of Dakshina Kannada, Chiranth M D of Shimogga, Shaswath Mudenagudi of Shimoga, Aadish Od Mysore, Girish harinja of Dakshinakannada along with other eight players are leading the team with 3 points each in Under 14 Boys Section.

Mangaluru, July 30: Medical doctor turned IAS officer K V Rajendra assumed charge as the 130th deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district here today.

The 2013 batch Karnataka cadre officer succeeds Sindhu B Rupesh, who was transferred as Director of Electronic Delivery of Citizen Services (EDCS), Bengaluru. The outgoing DC welcomed the new DC in the presence of staff. 

Dr Rajendra said that he expects cooperation from all stakeholders in administering the district, amidst the mounting Covid-19 cases.

Rajendra, an alumnus of JJM Medical College, Davanagere, was serving as the CEO of Belagavi zilla panchayat before being posted as DC of this coastal district. 

Having served as assistant commissioner of Puttur sub-division for nearly a year from December 2015, Dr Rajendra, hails from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district, had his probationary training in Bidar. He posted as CEO of Ballari ZP where he worked for nearly three till 21, 2019.

He also had a brief stint as assistant secretary in the department of fertiliser with the ministry of chemicals and fertilisers.

Sindhu who was the CEO of Udupi zilla panchayat had succeeded Sasikanth Senthil, who resigned from the Indian Administrative Service on September 6, 2019. She had taken charge on September 7, 2019.

Bengaluru, Mar 12: Days after a video of an elephant being shot in Bandipur National Park went viral on social media, officials said that they have removed a staffer and initiated action against an employee of the Karnataka Forest Department in the matter.

According to officials, the incident took place on March 7.

"We have removed Rahim, temporary staffer, and initiated action against Umesh, a permanent employee of the Karnataka Forest Department, after an internal enquiry," Bandipur field director T Balchandra said.

While Rahim is said to have shot the charging elephant, Umesh reportedly made the video and shared it on social media.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: Yellow alert has been issued for Karnataka's Shivamogga, Chikmagalur, Hassan, and Kodagu for July 23 and 24.

Some areas of Bengaluru may receive light rainfall today, said CS Patil, Director, IMD Centre, Bengaluru.

He added that coastal areas of the state are very likely to experience rainfall from on July 23 and July 24, and that rainfall may increase July 24 onwards. Widespread rainfall is predicted for July 24th, 25th, and 26th.
