Mangalore, November 20: Three masked youth locked up an elderly woman in her own house and made off with jewellery on Monday evening, at Ombattukere near Ullal.
At approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, the masked youth approached the house belonging to Vittala Nayak, forcibly led his wife Sharada (60) inside her home and locked the door, while she had been sitting outside with her mentally-challenged son.
Once inside, the robbers threatened her with weapons, and snatched her necklace weighing 2.5 sovereign along with other ornaments and fled from the house through the terrace, according to the complaint lodged at Ullal police station.
The complainant said that one of the robbers threatened Vittal outside the house to prevent him from alerting the nearby residents.
The distressed Sharada provided information that the robbers were young and had been conversing in Tulu language. It is suspected that it may be the handiwork of individuals known to them.
Sharada suffered slight injuries on her face and arm while being threatened, and was admitted to a hospital.
