Sub-jail shut down to intensify search for absconding prisoners

Kasargod, November 23: The sub-jail here was shut down and all its inmates were sent to Kannur central prison to avail of the services of the jail staff to trace the three absconding prisoners who jumped jail on Tuesday.

Though four inmates had escaped from the prison, Mohammed Iqbal, a twin murder accused, was rearrested hours later. The escapees had inflicted multiple stab wounds on jail warder K. Pavithran with a knife.

The decision to close down the sub-jail was taken after Director General of Police (Prisons) Alexander Jacob who visited here on Wednesday in the aftermath of the jailbreak.

The police have intensified search in the forest areas close to Iriyanni.

The DGP had ordered that the services of entire jail staff, including the Jail Superintendent, two head warders, nine warders and 42 trainee warders, be utilised to nab the absconding prisoners. A special force has been formed for the purpose.

Bengaluru, Mar 10: Techies living in a Whitefield apartment block where the city's first Coronavirus patient was residing have been asked to work from home.

The Karnataka government is in touch with the heads of IT and ITES companies, some of which are said to have asked their staff to work from home.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr C Ashwath Narayan, who also holds the IT and BT Portfolio, said the government had directed the companies to explore giving their employees the work-from-home option.

Mysuru, May 19: Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday announced the results of garbage free-star rating for Indian cities.

He said that Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh, Rajkot in Gujarat, Mysuru in Karnataka, Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra have got a five-star rating.

Puri extended the wishes to the cities who got a five-star rating and said it came at a time when the entire world, including India, are reeling under the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

"It was the intention of my senior colleagues and others to declare the result of star rating of garbage-free cities much earlier but we decided to postpone because we wanted at least some degree of opening to take place and we thought the timing is correct," Puri said.

The minister said that of all the flagship programmes Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced, Swachta Mission is the most important programme for him.

"I have often shared with you my assessment that of all the flagship programmes that the Prime Minister had announced after the 2014 election results. But my personal view, a view I have had a citizen and certainly a view that is fortified by my experience as Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, that the Swachta Mission by far is the most important programme of all the missions," Puri said

This new feature activates refunds and credits the customer's source account across payment methods such as credit card, net banking, and UPI within a minute of initiation.

India is one of the fastest-growing online retail markets today. About 71 per cent of internet users in the country purchase products online. Today, the refund process has two major pain points for both the end customer and the business.

First, a delay of five-seven business days for the customer in receiving the money because of multiple intermediaries like the acquiring bank, issuing bank and the networks (VISA/MasterCard/Rupay).
