Trader dies in car-bike collision

Mangalore, November 23: A businessman lost his life after a motorbike-car collision in front of Hebri Forest Department office on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Dayananda Hegde (50), a resident of Hadimane, and former member of Karkala APMC.

The accident occurred when Hegde was on his way from Hebri to Shivapura when a car barged into his motorbike from the opposite direction. Locals took him to Manipal Hospital but he died on the way.

The car driver, said to be hailing from Soraba escaped leaving the car on the spot. The car belongs to a Zilla Panchayat member, it has been found.

Hegde was a businessman by profession and also a BJP activist.

A case has been registered at Hebri police station.

Bengaluru, Jul 22: A total of 4,764 new COVID-19 cases and 55 deaths were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours.

Out of the new cases, 2,050 cases were reported in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

The total number of active cases stands at 47,069, said the state Health Department.

Death toll rises to 1,519 in the state.

Mangaluru, Jan 11: Reacting to the recent video clippings provided to the media by former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy in connection with the December 19 unrest in Mangaluru, city Police Commissioner Dr PS Harsha on Saturday said that the video has to be seen in a proper sequence to come to a conclusion on the happenings of that day.

Releasing videos in bits and pieces on social media or any platform will not help disclose the truth, said Harsha.

Udupi, Apr 20: Patients from outside the district visiting Udupi for emergency treatment should be in possession of a certificate, issued by the district health officer or taluk health officer, that they do not have any symptoms of Covid-19.

The decision was taken during an expert committee meeting chaired by Udupi Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha on Sunday.

The Deputy Commissioner said he will send a letter to all Deputy Commissioners in this regard. The patients from other districts will be treated in various hospitals in Udupi, only in case of emergency.
