Cases booked against Sharan Pumpwell, Tantri, for provocative speeches

sharan Mangalore, November 24: Cases have been registered against local Bajarang Dal chief Sharan Pumpwell and Kuntaru Ravish Tantri, Vice President, Kerala Hindu Aikya Vedike, for delivering communally provocative speeches on November 15, by Moodshedde resident Mohammed Saifullah at Pandeshwar Police Station.

Mr. Pumpwell had said in his speech during the protest rally demanding ban on cow slaughter that if the practice continues, one may have to see the repeat of communal violences that took place in the city in the past. Mr. Pumpwell said that Hindus would have to use the same weapon used for cow slaughter, the complaint states.

On the other hand, Mr. Tantri has been accused of stating that those carrying out cow slaughter will not be allowed to step outside their houses if the anti-cow slaughter law is not passed by Diwali. Mr. Saifulla has said that the Bajrang Dal was responsible for killing 9 Muslims in the communal violence that took place in 1998 and 2002.

The Pandeshwar police have written back to Mr. Saifulla stating that after seeking permission from the court, a case has been registered under the Section 153 (a) of the IPC.

VBM repatriation flight from Dammam lands in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, June 21: The first ever repatriation flight from Saudi Arabia’s Dammam Karnataka’s Mangaluru under Vande Bharat Mission (VBM) today brought home around 165 stranded passengers.

The IndiGo flight took off from Dammam International Airport at 11 a.m. (Saudi time) and landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 6:30 p.m.

The stranded passengers included pregnant women, senior citizens and those who are in need of emergency medical treatment are on board.

The passengers were screened at the Airport before being despatched for institutional quarantine in special buses.

Even though a few charter flights arranged by a couple of NRI entrepreneurs have already repatriated hundreds of stranded people from Dammam to Mangaluru, the government of India had not operated any repatriation flight under VBM on this sector so far.

Saudi Kannadigas Humanity Forum (SKHF), an NGO which came into existence to help the stranded Kannadigas in Saudi Arabia during covid-19 lockdown had been successful in persuading the government of India operate a flight on Dammam-Mangaluru sector under VBM.

SKHF has also set up an online portal for those who were in need of emergency repatriation. In today’s flight around 100 passengers have obtained seats through SKHF.

Karnataka: Covid-19 positive cases mounts to 651 including 304 recoveries and 26 deaths

Bengaluru, May 4: A total of 37 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours in Karnataka taking the total number to 651, State Health Department said on Monday.

"Thirty seven new coronavirus positive cases have been confirmed in Karnataka from 5 pm yesterday to 5 pm today. The total number of cases in the state stands at 651," the department said.

The total number of cases includes 27 deaths and 321 persons who have been discharged. Of the remaining 302 cases, 296 patients are in isolation in designated hospitals and six patients are in ICU.

India has registered 2,553 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours and the total number of cases now stands at 44,532.

Locals disrupt propaganda campaign on CAA, block BJP leaders

Hosapete, Jan 6: Tension prevailed at Chalavadikeri here on Monday as residents prevented BJP leaders and workers from entering the locality for propaganda on Citizenship (Amendment) Act and shouted slogans against them.

On receipt of the information about the arrival of the BJP leaders, the residents of the locality gathered at the entrance of the lane and displayed black flag besides shouting slogan-go back, go back.

The people told the BJP workers not enter their vicinity when the workers stated them that they will distribute pamphlets only.

The police who arrived at the spot are trying their best to pacify the irate locals. More number of people belonging to Muslim and Dalit communities are residing in the area.
