Land purchase cheating: One arrested

sampatha_rajMangalore, November 24: Pandeshwar police have arrested one person for cheating a man over a land purchase matter.The arrested has been identified as M Sampath Raj (31), a resident of Bajal Sasihitlu.


The arrest was made after Dr. Prakash Shetty complained to the police of being cheated by him. Police are now questioning Raj over the matter.


One of the accused in the case, Srinivas Nayak, reportedly introduced Raj to Mr. Shetty. Naik and Raj managed to convince Mr. Shetty of a land available in Mannagudde Sultan Battery and obtained a cheque from him of Rs.4 lakh besides taking Rs. 50,000 in cash. But it now being complained that he was cheated as the land was not registered at all.


When asked to register the land or return the money, Raj refused to do so and hurled abuses at him besides assaulting him by sending two people to his residence, Mr. Shetty has said in his complaint.

Kasaragod, Apr 3: Kerala reported nine new cases of coronavirus on Friday, with seven from the worst affected Kasaragod district, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.

With this, the total number of coronavirus positive cases in the coastal district alone mounted to 136.

Besides, Kasaragod, one case each was detected from Thrissur and Idukki, he told reporters after a COVID-19 review meeting this evening.

Currently, 251 people are under treatment for the virus in the state and 14 were cured today, Vijayan said.

A total of 1.69 lakh people are under surveillence in the state and 706 are in various hospitals.

Two fatalities have been reported from the state so far.

Bengaluru, Aug 9: A youth was killed and three others injured as a pillar of an old temple on the outskirts of Bengaluru fell on them as they and five others dug under it in search of treasure, police said on Saturday.

"One treasure hunter got crushed under a pillar, three suffered injuries and have been hospitalised while five are on the run," a police official said.

The incident occurred at a centuries-old Anjaneya temple in Hindiganala village near Hoskote, around 50 km away from the city, on Thursday night.

Suresh, 23, got crushed to death while Manjunath, 23, Srinivas, 22, and Sebastian Raja Rathna, 22, were injured.

Following the unexpected accident, the injured treasure hunters called a 108 ambulance, leading to the entire incident coming to light.

The ambulance staff helped the youth stuck under the temple pillars and took them to hospital.

Police have registered a case under various sections of the Ancient Monuments Act, the Karnataka Treasure Trove Act, and the Indian Penal Code.

According to the official, local youth the village as well as a nearby village were involved in the hunt.

Police are on the lookout for the five treasure hunters on the run.

However, the police official said that it was an old ruined temple and there was nothing there.

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Tuesday instructed that despite financial constraints don't cut scholarships of the students belonging to Backward Class (BC) across the state.

Speaking at a review meeting of the Social Welfare Department at his home office 'Krishna' here, he said the department has achieved 97 per cent in implementation of the government programmes.

He said that among the BC students who were given training for the competitive examinations, two selected for IAS, two IPS, 13 IRS and another 268 students have been selected for various competitions and selected for the jobs.
