Drive against cancer: 'Gata Rahe Mera Dil' enthralls audience

Mangalore, November 27: Gata Rahe Mera Dil, a musical concert, was organised by R C Mangalore Sunrise at Town Hall, in the city on Monday evening to raise funds to fight against cancer – a life threatening disease.

President of R C Mangalore Sunrise Rtn. Dr. Shivashankar Bhat in his welcome address revealed that the programme is organised to raise funds for conducting free early cancer detection camps and create awareness about the deadly disease.

R.I.Dist.3180 Governor Rtn. Dr B Devdas Rai speaking as a chief guest said that the cancer awareness and detection camps is one of our important Rotary district projects aimed at the welfare of the people and he lauded the efforts of R C Mangalore Sunrise for initiating a drive against the deadly disease cancer, a noble cause indeed, he said.

Asst Governor Rtn. Sadashiva Shetty was the guest of honour on this occasion. Rtn. Eulalia D'souza compered the programme and thanked all the sponsors of this event, particularly M/s Rohan Corporation for their very liberal and generous contributions. Rtn. Hemacharya was the chief coordinator of this event.

Later, the concert featuring eminent artists Anitha D'souza, Srikanth Kamath, Mohd Haneef, and Ranjan Das entertained the jam-packed audience with their spellbound melodious and enchanting Hindi film golden melody songs of yester years under the Calicut based music director Pappan. The artists' team donated voluntarily Rs 8,500 for the noble cause, which was well appreciated by the audience.

Mangaluru, Mar 14: About 80 centres to check people for fever, cold, cough and other symptoms related to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been set up in the city, health officials said here on Saturday.

According to sources in district health department, apart from the testing centres at Wenlock District Hospital and Lady Goshen hospital, six centres in community health centres, 66 in primary health centres (PHC) and four in the taluk hospitals have been opened for people to get themselves checked if they show any COVID-19-related symptoms.

Two other testing centres are already working at the city’s airport and seaport.

Mangaluru, Jul 8: A corporator and a staff in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have tested positive for the coronavirus. 

The woman corporator, who was under home quarantine for past few days ago, received her covid test report today. 

A staff of health department who works in MCC also tested positive for the covid-19. 

The woman corporator had recently attended a primary health centre meeting. A person who had attended the meeting was later tested positive. Hence the corporator was placed under home quarantine.

Bengaluru, Apr 21: An FIR has been filed against a Kannada TV anchor allegedly for organising a guest packed wedding at a resort near Bengaluru last week amid lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Police got the tip-off about the event held on April 18 by locals residing near the resort. Around 20 people were present there to attend the wedding.

The FIR has been filed under National Disaster Management Act (NDMA) and Section 188 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code.
