Five vehicles carrying chicken from Dakshina Kannada seized in Kasargod

Kasargod, November 29: Commercial tax officials on Wednesday impounded five vehicles carrying chicken from Dakshina Kannada without valid documents on the National Highway at Periyattadukam in Kasasrgod district.
Four trucks and a van were intercepted by sleuths of the Commercial Tax (Intelligence) Department, sources here said.
The Kerala State government had enforced restrictions on transporting poultry from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu following reports of outbreak of bird flu there.
The ban was lifted after making it mandatory to produce veterinary examination certificates by the Animal Protection Department.
The officials said that only one of the five vehicles had documents from the department.
It was found that the consignment was being brought in without remitting commercial tax.
As per government norms, trucks bringing in consignments of chicken and egg could pay commercial tax after producing veterinary examination certificate, they said.

Mangaluru, Jul 17: An expert team from Bengaluru has arrived here on Friday to study the factors that have led to the sudden spurt in death due to Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka in the recent past.

The team has arrived following a request made by the district administration. The team comprising three experts has already held talks with specialist Doctors, according to official sources.

It will examine the reports on the treatment provided to the patients who have succumbed to the infection and will submit a report citing reasons for the increase in deaths, the sources added.

Uppinangady, Feb 9: Two members of a family were killed after the car collided with a tanker on the NH 75 at Bedrody near Uppinangady last night.

Police said on Sunday that the deceased have been identified as Jainy Saji (30) and her elder brother Jeeson (40).

Jainy and Jeeson were going to Uppinangady when a tanker, coming from the opposite direction, rammed into their car.

Mangaluru, Feb 2: A local court on Saturday remanded Aditya Rao,the suspect in the Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) bomb case, to two weeks judicial custody.

Rao was produced before the Sixth Judicial First Class Magistrate Court after the 10-day police custody expired.

Rao has been in police custody since January 22 after he surrendered before the police in Bengaluru on January 21 and was later brought here.

He had allegedly planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the airport on January 20 triggering panic and later made a hoax call to the airport terminal that a bomb had been planted in an IndiGo flight.

During the last ten days, police took the accused to several places in the city and Udupi where he had frequented in the recent past.

He was also taken to the room where he stayed while he was working at a hotel in the city.
