Kasargod, December 2: The police are on the lookout for some unknown persons who decamped with 600 g of gold ornaments, 14.5 kg of silver, 30 g of pure gold, a Tissot watch, and Rs.1, 000 in cash from a jewellery showroom in the early hours of Saturday.
The ornaments estimated at lakhs of rupees were stolen from Nakshatra jewellery on the busy M.G. Road in Kasargod.
The jewellery owners in a complaint with the police said they had closed the showroom around 7.30 p.m. on Friday. The incident came to light when they opened the store at 9.15 a.m. on Saturday, the police said.
The complainants said the gold ornaments and other precious metals were kept locked in a safe. The police suspect that the burglars entered the shop by removing the roof tiles and broke open the metal door of the attic leading to the locker room. The locker was opened using duplicate keys, the police said.
Kasaragod Circle Inspector C.K. Sunil Kumar and sub-inspector Dinesh inspected the spot along with fingerprint experts.
