Puttige seer to release book on Islam and terrorism

Udupi, December 5: Mangalore based Shanti Prakashana's new Kannada book on Islam and terrorism titled “Islam Bhayotpadaneya Dharmavalla” (Islam is not a religion of terrorism) b will be released at the Town Hall here on Friday.

 

This is a Kannada translation of the Hindi book, “Islam - Aatank Ya Adarsh” authored by Swami Lakshmi Shankaracharya.

 

According to a press release issued here, a symposium on “Present society amidst fear and illusions” would also be held on the occasion.

 

Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji of Puttige Math would release the book and inaugurate the seminar.

 

Gananath Yekkar, head of the Postgraduate Department of Kannada at the Government College, Nery Carnelio, Principal of Milagres College, and Akbar Ali, member of the State Advisory Committee of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, would be the chief guests. Mohammed Kunhi, manager of Shanti Prakashana, would preside over the function.

 

Shanti Prakashana has been rendering valuable service to Kannada literature over the last 24 years.

 

The publishing house seeks to remove religious misconceptions and promote trust, harmony, and compassion in society. It has published 225 books so far, the release added. terrorism

Bengaluru, Apr 13: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President and former Minister D K Shivakumar has demanded resignation of Minister In-Charge of COVID-19 for his alleged irresponsible comment, despite holding a responsible post.

Mr Shivakumar's comments came after Dr Sudhakar on Sunday shared a picture of him and his children in a swimming pool, on Twitter with a caption, ''After a long time joined my children for swimming hope maintaining social distance here as well…hahaha.''

However, Dr Sudhakar deleted the tweet from his account, soon after he was criticised for sharing such a picture, when the country is facing a health crisis.

Amidst heightened border tensions between Indian and China, senior BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's two year old tweet comparing his party with Communist Party of China started going viral. 

The tweet, dated 26 June, 2016 reads: "Communist Party of China & BJP have done numerous works in social field. This way, there is tremendous similarities between the two parties." (sic)

Twitterati dug up this tweet after over 20 Indian Army personnel, including a colonel, were killed in a clash with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh earlier this week.

Soon after Chouhan's tweet went viral, netizens took to the micro-blogging site and slammed BJP. One user said, "Interesting comment by Hindutva ITSELF to recognise how similar they are with China. No doubt. Both believe in Dragon Throne .... and brutal absolute control." Another user said, "No wonder the BJP & China both agree that PLA never crossed into Indian territory."

Udupi, Aug 1: A young rider lost his life after a head-on collision between a scooter and a car on K G Road in Udupi last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Praveen Ganiga (24), a resident of Kodavoor in Malpe.

According to police Praveen was riding his scooter on the wrong side of the road. The car was plying from Brahmavar to Udupi.

The people on board car suffered minor injuries in the mishap. A case was registered at Brahmavar police station and investigations are on.
