Mangalore, December 6: Even after 20 years of the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya in 1992, the Congress has not lived up to its assurances of reconstructing the Masjid or punishing the accused named by the Liberhan Commission, said Popular Front of India (PFI) state committee member Abdul Razak Kemmara.
Addressing a press meet convened by the district unit of PFI here on Thursday, he said that the accused in the 1992 demolition case were roaming in the country as free men at present without guilt and fear of punishment, in spite of their names having been clearly specified in the Liberhan Inquiry Commission Report.
The Congress has so far neither taken the accused to task, nor shown any inclination to do so. Only if the accused in the demolition case are given severe punishment for leading the country to the brink of communal discord will ensure that justice is done to millions, he said.
The verdict of the Allahabad High court regarding the ownership of the disputed site, to divide it into three parts, has also been agreed by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional, he said, urging the government to re-construct the Masjid at the site and bring the culprits to book.
He said that the PFI state committee would submit a memorandum on the matter to the Governor and the President of India.
