Rapist won helpless family's trust before taking advantage

Mangalore, December 6: Fathima's (name changed) mother was leading a tough life rolling beedies with her two female children. The owner of her rented house Ismaeel (29), who wanted to take advantage of their financial problems, posed as a well-wisher and won their trust.

 

When Fathima's elder sister fell ill, he extended help and also helped Fathima when she had hurt herself after falling off from the roof of her house two years ago. But his true intentions were out only later.

 

The mental state of 14-year-old Fathima, who had injured her head in the incident, had changed and was not as sharp as she was before. Her behaviour would attract criticism from her classmates, so much so that she quit going to school.

 

Ismael, knew about her mental problem and hence decided to take advantage of her. On December 4, he took her in a car to BC Road and then to Uppala where he kept her in a woman's house. As per the account given by Fathima, Ismaeel along with his friend Raheem raped her for an hour or so.

 

When she tried to scream, the duo tied a cloth on her mouth, her elder sister has said.

 

Fathima had accompanied her mother to Mudipu where they wanted to look for a rented house but former returned home alone via bus.

 

Ismaeel got information about Fathima being alone at home and hence coaxed her into going along with him in the pretext of buying her clothes. Since he was a known man, Fathima trusted her but he turned out to be a cheat, her sister has said. rapist2

Kasaragod, Jul 22: An accused in a POCSO case jumped into the sea at Kasaba Coast near here on Wednesday.

Sources said the accused Mahesh (28), resident of Soorlu Kanhangad, was brought to the groyne ('pulimuttu' in Malayalam) at the coast for collecting evidence.

He escaped from the police and ran around 200 meters towards the sea and jumped into it. The effort to rescue him also failed.

Police, Fire & Rescue officials and fishermen are searching for the body of the accused.

Mahesh was arrested on charge of capturing the video of a minor girl in a washroom on his mobile. 

During interrogation, he had told the copse that he had hidden the mobile, which was used to video record the act, near the groyne. Accordingly, the police had brought him to this place.

Bengaluru, Jan 16: Members and activists of social organisation Rakshana Vedike on Thursday staged a protest and demanded the arrest of BJP MLA Somashekhara Reddy, for his 'provocative' remarks and statements.

The protesters gathered near Gandhi’s statue near Maurya circle in the city and demanded that the BJP MLA should be arrested immediately.

The protesters alleged that Reddy’s remark were aimed at inciting communal hatred and that his remarks do not do justice to his being an elected representative of the people in the state assembly.

Bengaluru, Apr 22: Former Chief Minister and the Opposition Leader in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah appealed the state government not to discriminate the poor on political lines while distributing relief package to the COVID-19 affected people in the state.

He was speaking to newsmen after attending a grocery kits distribution programme, organised in Jayanagar Assembly constituency, which was represented by the Congress MLA and former minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Charging that there are complaints about the state government in discriminating the Congress MLAs represented constituencies in providing relief kits to distribute among the poorer sections in the society, he said that “there should not be no room for politics, while fighting the COVID-19 disease”.
