Udupi, December 8: Politicians are responsible for increasing terrorism in India and other parts of the world, opined Puttige Mutt pontiff Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji.

He was speaking after releasing a book “Islam Bhayotpadaneya Dharmavalla”, a Kannada translation of the Hindi book “Islam – Aatank Ya Adarsh” written by Swami Lakshmi Shankaracharya, here on Friday. The Kannada translation has been done by K M Ashraf and the book has been published by Shanti Prakashana.

“Politicians are creating disharmony among various religions for their own political objectives. Selfish persons were interested in creating tensions between religions. This was responsible for the tension between Hindus and Muslims”, he said.

No religion preached terrorism. It was wrong to blame a religion for the act of an individual. It was wrong for the media to use words such as Hindu terrorism and Islam terrorism. Politicians were the real and bigger terrorists than the terrorists themselves. It was essential to tackle politicians first. It was the politicians who were responsible for the growth of terrorism, he reiterated.

He said that interaction between people of various religions is a healthy process and it should always be encouraged. There should be harmony among people following different religions, he said.

“Once people start interacting, all the doubts would vanish and there would be harmony. The book 'Islam Bhayotpadaneya Dharmavalla' would go a long way in removing misconceptions people have about Islam”, he said.

The Union Government was permitting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in retail sector. This would have a catastrophic impact on society.

Akbar Ali, member of the State Advisory Committee of Jamaat-E-Islami Hind, Gananath Yekkar, Head of the P.G. Department of Kannada at the Government College, Nery Carnelio, Principal of Milagres College, and Mohammed Kunhi, Manager of Shanti Prakashana, were among those present. Idris Hoode welcomed the gathering.
