Mangalore, December 8: City based Ashfaq Ahmed has been elected as the new National President of Students Islamic Organisation of India for the term 2013-14.
He will be officially taking charge at the head quarter of the organisation in New Delhi from outgoing SIO present Mohammad Azharuddin.
Mr Ahmed was elected by the members of Zonal Advisory Council of all states under the patron-ship of chief patron of SIO and Ameer of Jama'at-e-Islami Hind Jalaluddin Ansar Umari at 'All ZAC camp', held in Bangalore. The same body will also elect All India Central Advisory Council of SIO.
Son of K M Shareef Jeppu and a journalism graduate from Bangalore University, Mr Ahmed has held different responsibilities in the students' wing of JIH.
He was the SIO Zonal President of Karnataka for 2011-2012. He also served as the editor of organisation's mouthpiece 'The Companion'.
