Mangalore, December 13: A final year MBBS student of Yenepoya Medical College was found dead in his flat at Kadri in the city on Tuesday. It is believed that he had died five days ago as the body was in highly a decomposed state.

The student identified as Mohammed Hamdan Rashid (29) hailing from Hazratganj, Lucknow, reportedly paid his college fees on Friday and came back to his Kasturi Mansion apartment in Kadri and never came out. The cause of death is being said to be asthma.

However, his death is said to have taken place without anyone's notice. Speaking to Coastaldigest.com, Saif, a social worker handling the post-death affairs of the student's body, said that it was only after five days that the locals broke open his flat door when the foul smell emanating from his dead body became unbearable.

The post mortem of the body was conducted at Government Wenlock Hospital. Later, body was taken to Zeenath Baksh Masjid the city for burial. The body has decomposed badly and it is not possible to send it to Lucknow, Mr. Saif said. The deceased's family has arrived from Lucknow, he added.

The activist and other students gathered at the morgue accused the college of not taking care of the post-death affairs of the body and engaging in correspondence with the deceased student's family.

Kadri police are investigating the matter. yenepoya
