Mangalore, December 14: Home minister R Ashok has hinted in the legislative council in Belgaum on that the Karnataka government might withdraw the case against city based television journalist Naveen Soorinje.
Mr Soorinje, who was arrested in connection with July 28 Mangalore homestay attack, has been booked under CRPC's Section 120(b) – criminal conspiracy, Section 147- rioting, and Section 354- assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty.
The journalist had gone to cover the attack carried out by Hindu Jagarana Vedike activists, who objected to boys and girls partying, and was booked under Indian Penal Code for failing to alert police when the incident took place.
Responding to the request of JD(S) leader MC Nanaiah, who demanded to withdraw cases against Mr Soorinje in the council on Thursday, Mr Ashok said that he would appropriate legal action in this regard.
