Kasargod, December 15: The police have arrested six persons, including a migrant labourer hailing from Assam, in connection with the alleged molestation of a minor girl, a class IX student, of a school in the sleepy hamlet of Thayannur in the district.

A police team led by Kanhangad circle inspector K.V. Venugopal arrested two persons — Karinthalan and Balan — on Thursday, while four youths, including a worker from Assam Gulzar Hussain, Shaji alias Abraham, K.K. Sudhakaran, and Ravi, were arrested on Friday.

The incident came to light when the girl narrated the incident to her classmate, who in turn, informed the class teacher, police sources said.

The school informed Childline volunteers, who took the girl from her residence, where she was living with her mother, who was doing manual job at a nearby hotel.

After having lodged a complaint with the Ambalathara police station, the girl told the investigating officers that she had been subjected to sexual harassment by taking her to various places for the last one year.

She said she could not disclose the matter to her mother as they threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the matter to any person. The police registered a case under IPC Section 376 (rape) against the arrested persons. The Hosdurg Judicial First Class Magistrate Court remanded them to two weeks' judicial custody. molested.jp
