spicejetRiyadh, December 15: SpiceJet, India's most popular low fare airline, is expanding its wings in Saudi skies, connecting Riyadh with India's capital city New Delhi that fulfills the long-standing aspirations of the people of the two countries.  The inaugural flight will take off on Jan. 4 from Riyadh to New Delhi, a sector that has reported progressively growing passenger loads during the last few years.

“SpiceJet has received all the required regulatory/government approval from concerned authorities in Saudi Arabia and India to launch its services,” said Neil Raymond Mills, SpiceJet chief executive officer. Tickets for Riyadh-Delhi flights are available with the travel agents in the Kingdom and in India. The move by SpiceJet to launch new services is significant in light of the total number of Indian workers in Saudi Arabia that presently exceeds 2.2 million.

On the other hand, the Riyadh-New Delhi sector has been underserved by most of the carriers, as many of them have preferred operating primarily from Saudi Arabia to Central and South Indian destinations only. The business traffic on this route is also growing with India emerging today as the fourth largest trading partner of Saudi Arabia besides being a major destination for investment, tourism and IT.

Spelling out the details of the SpiceJet new service, Mills said that “the Indian government has taken substantial steps to open its airspace for air service with many countries ... to leverage opportunity and offer quality services at affordable prices to our customers. In light of this, we are pleased to announce the launch of flights to Riyadh."  The SpiceJet chief said that the airline is expanding its footprints on new destinations with the brand new fleet of Boeing and the latest Q400 next generation turbo prop aircraft from Bombardier.

He pointed out that the first flight will take off from the Riyadh-based King Khaled International Airport Riyadh (KKIA) on Jan. 4 at 7 a.m. The flight will land at New Delhi airport at 1:20 p.m. The flight from New Delhi will proceed to Riyadh daily at 3:45 p.m. (Indian time). The tickets for Riyadh-Delhi-Riyadh flights can be booked through www.spicejet.com or by contacting toll free reservation at 1800 180 3333/0987 180 3333 and through travel agents in the two countries.

SpiceJet, which currently operates flights to the UAE and connects Dubai with Indian cities of Ahmedabad, Delhi, Mumbai and Kochi, has an aggressive expansion plan for Saudi Arabia and for other member countries of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). SpiceJet is India's preferred airline, owning 19.1 percent of domestic Indian aviation market, delivering the lowest airfares with the highest consumer value. The airline currently operates more than 300 daily flights to 38 Indian cities and five international destinations.

The airline offers to those flying from Riyadh convenient connecting SpiceJet flights to a large number of Indian cities including Agartala, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Bagdogra, Belgaum, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Hubli, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Madurai, Mangalore, Mumbai, Port Blair, Pune, Rajahmundry, Srinagar, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Tuticorin, Varanasi, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

The airline operates newly acquired 12 Bombardier Q400 aircraft for enhancing connectivity to different cities on its domestic and international routes. SpiceJet, headquartered in Gurgaon near New Delhi, has been voted among the top five “Best Budget Airline in Asia” by Smart Travel Asia in 2008, 2009 and 2012. Bengaluru, Mar 13: Several ministers staying at the Bengaluru resort had been emotionally pressurised to leave the Congress party, said Congress leader Jitu Patwari on Thursday after he was rescued by party leader DK Shivakumar from getting arrested due to the scuffle that had broken out at Embassy Boulevard here.

"We had received information that one of the MLAs, Manoj Chaudhary, staying at the Boulevard wanted his father to bring him back home," Patwari told reporters.

He said, "We had accompanied Manoj's father to the resort but the moment we entered the restaurant at the resort, some miscreants took away Manoj to some other unknown place," Patwari told reporters.

"Meanwhile, we (Lakhan Singh and Jitu Patwari) were manhandled and taken to the police station," he added.

Patwari said that the police had started the process of arresting them but Shivakumar came to their rescue and stopped their arrest.

He further said, "The police manhandled us even though we tried to talk to them in a very calm manner."

"If the MLAs giving resignation was their decision then why is the BJP not allowing them to contact their families," the MP said.

He further said that Jyotiraditya Scindia would soon become a minister but "why are the other ministers being made scapegoats."

Earlier in the day, a Congress leader in Madhya Pradesh had said that if action on the assaulters of its two leaders is not taken then the matter will be taken to the court.

Bengaluru, Feb 14: A 31 -year-old Bhojpuri dancer and another girl were rescued from human traffickers after the former alerted city police on landing at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday. They were to be received by a woman named Preethi at the airport.

The dancer had been told she was supposed to perform a few stage shows in the city, which has a significant Bhojpuri-speaking population. But when she realised she is likely to be pushed into flesh trade, she raised an alarm.

The woman, Radha (name changed), is a mother of four children and the lone breadwinner of the family. A few months ago, Radha came in contact with a woman named Soniya in New Delhi during a dance performance. Last month, Soniya got in touch with Radha and offered to pay Rs 40,000 per month if she performed in Bengaluru.

Radha agreed and was sent to Bengaluru from Chandigarh along with the other girl. During the journey, she learnt she was supposed to do more than just perform on stage. A shocked Radha informed the Central Industrial Security Force personnel manning KIA that she feared being pushed into prostitution. KIA police were informed and the women were rescued. Preethi was arrested.

Vijayapura, June 18: Shoukat Ali Sumbad, a local farmer, has donated land for the construction of Chennamma memorial, modelled on the Kittur fort, at Sindagi town in Vijayapura to celebrate the town's connect with the valorous Lingayat queen who fought the British in 1824.

Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji of Lingayat Panchamasali Peetha Kudala Sangam said Shoukat Ali came forward to donate his land adjacent to the state highway when local authorities failed to provide land for the memorial.

"The committee led by Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swamiji sought a 15x10 plot but when I went through their plan of constructing a model of Kittur fort, I decided to donate 425 sq ft," said the 61-year-old farmer.

"Rani Chennamma is the pride of every Indian, irrespective of caste and creed, and my contribution is nothing compared to her sacrifice for the nation," he added.

Shoukat Ali, who lives in the neighbouring town of Almel, said he is a man of modest means but proud to make the contribution. "I own nine acres of land in Almel. I have six sons and two daughters. Two of my sons run small businesses in Mumbai. Ten of us live in a small house in Almel," he said.

“I also work as a broker to sell or buy sites. I had bought 15 guntas of land in Sindagi for my children some 15 years ago. When our MLA MC Managuli and Swamiji sought land for the memorial, my entire family agreed wholeheartedly” Shoukat Ali said.

“As Chennamma’s history is linked to Sindagi, there has been a demand for a memorial here since 2008, but the town municipal council failed to provide land due to political and technical reasons,” said Swamiji.

“There were plans to observe a Sindagi bandh in the first week of June to protest the indifference of authorities. But then Sumbad gave us his land. We have formed a committee to construct a model of Kittur fort and a bronze statue of Chennamma at a cost of Rs 28 lakh,” he added.
