Month-long Karavali Utsav gets underway

Mangalore, December 22: Minister for Higher Education C T Ravi on Friday inaugurated the month-long karavali Utsav began at Karavali Utsav Grounds in the city.

 

Various cultural events, an exhibition and a beach utsav will be held as a part of the utsav that will be celebrated till January 27.

 

Speaking on the occasion Mr Ravi said that the country's richness was know not by the wealth of its people but by its rich cultural diversity.

 

The country had a rich mix of ancient and modern traditions, he said.

 

He said the Dakshina Kannada region was not only known for its cultural diversity but as a place where many languages were spoken.

 

Events such as Karavali Utsav brought out the cultural diversity here.

 

It helped alleviate the loneliness that was a by-product of disconnected modern society and gave rise to a sense of belongingness in a person. Such cultural events made people feel one with the environment.

 

The Karavali Utsav should be spectacular enough attract attention of the world, he said.

 

The exhibition began on a low key on Friday. As against Guttina Mane featured last year, entrance to the exhibition depicted a big fish with its mouth wide open.

 

“You have to enter it to have a feel of the articles (exhibition) inside,” said president of the Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat Pradeep Kumar Kalkura.

 

This year 76 artists and their teams would perform at Karavali Utsav Grounds and at Kadri Park.

 

Lagori team from Bangalore was the first group that performed on Friday evening.

 

A light music programme by Gurudas Shenoy and team from Bangalore and by Vidya Manoj and team from Belthangady would be held at Karavali Utsav Grounds on Saturday evening.

 

At Kadri Park, there would be a Shehenai recital by Fakirappa Bhajantri followed by a vocal recital by M.S. Sheela.

Bantwal, Jun 29: Seven SSLC students, who were on their way to write the examination, were injured in a road mishap near Panemangaluru on Monday.

According to sources, the auto-rickshaw in which the students were travelling overturned causing them injuries.

All the injured were students of Shambur Government high school.

Police said the accident took place as the driver lost control over the vehicle.

Mangaluru, Jul 2: A youth who was on job hunt committed suicide by hanging from the roof of his house in Maroli on Wednesday.

32-year-old Advaita Shetty taken pilot training and looking for a job, According to sources, he had come back to his native place, Maroli, three days ago.

The exact reason behind this extreme step is not known yet.

Kankanady town police have registered a case in this regard.

Davanagere, Jul 4: Referring to allegations made by former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's charge about corruption while purchasing COVID-19 equipment, Health Minister B Sriramulu said the state government is ready for any kind of probe in this regard.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, he said the government has maintained accounts for each purchase of equipment related to Covid-19. 

"So, Congress leader's allegations are far from the truth. Siddaramaiah has vast political experience. It is unbecoming of such a leader to make ridiculous allegations. The government is ready to release white paper on purchase of equipment related to Covid-19," he said.

He said Karnataka stands third in the country in collection of throat swabs and examination of people related to Covid-19. The entire country has hailed Karnataka's role in containing Covid-19, Sriramulu he added.
